I used to work at Google and they let a small group of us try to help save the world. Not sure how we managed that.

Trouble maker, in the sense of John Lewis "good trouble".

I'm a dad and I'm a fan of being a dad. A+ would recommend it.

Also, we need to ban golf and bulldoze all golf courses.

I saw someone in some posts @davidgerard shared talking about people asking for nuance in discussions of rsync/LLMs and I'm slightly annoyed that a good joke failed a reality check - L&H that was the speech recognition company that died from fraud, not Nuance. Bugger.

'Beyond our capacity' to defend sea trade lanes, Shoebridge says

Greens defence spokesman David Shoebridge says it is "ridiculous" to think Australia's military could defend the nation's global trade lanes, and acquiring nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS only invites Australia to a conflict between the United States and China.

it's a small thing, but one other thing UN comtrade has over worldbank's WITS is they get the ISO country codes right. that's fine, world bank, I'm sure the various Balkan states aren't touchy about you getting their names/alpha3 codes incorrect.

Of course the other thing here is you also gave this to one of a small number of companies that have racked up an enormous amount of debt while charging you a teaser billing rate. Hope you like bill shock. https://infosec.exchange/@beyondmachines1/116667890787158422

Actually looks like it would be reasonably easy if you were shipping an API client to hook these sorts of notebooks up to your ci/cd pipeline to make sure that changes don't break your examples. Very neat.
So a shout out to the data nerds at the UN. They have a client library for their trade db that's open source, and have also made examples as jupyter notebooks, so you can just grab them and run and tinker with them. Extremely good form. https://github.com/uncomtrade/comtradeapicall/tree/main/examples

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-05-30/pete-hegseth-us-will-prevent-china-hegemony-shangri-la-dialogue/106740596 realllllly. how, exactly? You've chosen to shred all soft power as "woke", including pissing off all your allies, and your military is trapped in an unwinnable war. Oh and your military is using up vast quantities of expensive precision weapons that would have taken years to replenish even if Grandpa Tariff Otaku hadn't blown global supply chains to shit.
US won't let China impose 'hegemony' in Asia, Hegseth says

The US Secretary of War addressed Asia's most important defence summit, but did not mention Taiwan as questions remain over a stalled weapons package.
