Also, fellow #LanguageLearning nerds, how do we feel about #Pimsleur? Any good? I just found out my library has copies and was thinking of trying it out.
@mynasaurus itโ€™s useful and, if you can get it for free, worth trying - I have found other methods more useful personally.
@szattwellauthor Interesting! What methods have worked well for you?
@mynasaurus Iโ€™m taking lessons from Berlitz right now and itโ€™s been extremely helpful - both private tutoring and the Flex method. As an English instructor (CELTA), I strongly recommend a class method like Berlitz. Others: Memrise can be useful as a supplemental app, LingQ for reading/vocab, and podcasts/YouTube for listening.
@szattwellauthor Ah that makes sense! I'm so shy but I should definitely do a class. I'll look into Berlitz, thank you :)
@mynasaurus I've never tried (my library doesn't have them) but I've heard lots of recommendations. I'd definitely give it a try!
@carbsrule I might check it out! I'm worried I won't be able to get through all the lessons before the loan expires though. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@mynasaurus I often have to renew twice and then re-borrow later to get through things ๐Ÿ˜…
@mynasaurus I enjoyed using it to pick up a little bit of Arabic. I really like the way it trains you to come up with a target language phrase youโ€™ve learned by asking you what it is an English, then leaving a space for you to say it out loud. Much more effective for me than listening and repeating. I donโ€™t get a sense that it would be useful for a deep study of a language, but for basic communication I think itโ€™s great.
@whetstone Ah interesting! Thank you for your detailed response, that's very helpful (and I had no idea there was a romancelandia server, how cool!).
@mynasaurus Courtney Milan mentioned it and I figured it would be a nice home. Romance readers/authors tend to be interested in a wide variety of things & generally politically harmonious.
โ€ฆ harmonious with my thinking, i should say.
@mynasaurus
I've just discovered the #Pimsleur app and took out the "black Friday" subscription and I'm still in my free week.
I'm very impressed with it. It probably is the best system other than a good face to face teacher.
If the resources from your library are half as good as the app they're worth trying.

@cris This is helpful, thank you!
