At the risk of mixing metaphors, the easiest way of getting my head around the #Mastodon federated feed is thinking of your local instance as a planet and the fedi as the federation of planets, per #startrek.

However, it is not remotely like the feudal system in #Dune. So long as no one discovers a spice to mine, it should remain so.

home = your follows
local = your instance
federated = firehose

Now, just really need a better way of connecting with all the tweeps I want to.
