@dougholton debating if I belong on higheredweb…
@karenraycosta yeah I still have no idea what server to switch to. I was probably going to just wait a few weeks or so, perhaps things will settle down a little, no rush. If you join a big one, the worry is they don't have the resources to properly moderate it. If you join a little one, you have to wonder about longevity/sustainability of the server. & when you do switch, your posts won't transfer over, but your followers will, & you can import your following/block lists https://screenrant.com/mastodon-change-servers-migrate-account-how/
@dougholton oh geez I hadn’t even considered that angle! I was just thinking I’m terms of where I’d see cool stuff and meet cool people. The layers!

@dougholton @clintlalonde - I didn't realize this until I started trying to look at different instances, but there does not seem to be a way to look at the type of content that appears on a given site.
@dougholton @clintlalonde there is also https://bildung.social (but mostly in German)
bildung.social

@dougholton @clintlalonde For users *outside* those instances…

@dougholton @clintlalonde

@dougholton @[email protected] also. So it’s clear. You can have multiple accounts. You could have one just for work stuff on an education server and then a general one for other stuff. Some of the apps have an account switching function. So it’s an actual option not just a hack.
@EeeeWooo @[email protected] yes, you can have multiple accounts, even on the same server. There are also non-mastodon servers you can join such as #pixelfed for photo sharing or #bookwrym for book reviews. They all interconnect, letting you follow, share, etc., via a shared protocol known as #ActivityPub. And together all these servers make up the #fediverse.
