To everyone, like me, who is new here on Mastodon -- I swear, I feel like I'm in Canada, escaping Gilead -- here are two posts by the primary developer of the platform (and owner of the non-profit that holds the trademarks etc) explaining that you should ignore people lecturing you about what you should and shouldn't post here. I now consider this issue settled, and will no longer respond to these folks. Time to embrace Mastodon! Thank you for welcoming us.

@kathygriffin @Aravosis Yep. And it's not required by your server rules (the obvious things are). And I agree. I, for example, am triggered by grocery stores (haven't been in one in years - don't ask). Everyone is triggered by something.

@rmayemsinger @kathygriffin @Aravosis The server rules are where CW requirements need to be established and that’s what people should be following. Otherwise it just becomes too vague. Glad to see better filtering is coming though. That too will help people who don’t want to engage in certain topics.

It's not like simply because we come from Twitter we'd post pics of dead bodies, racism and explicit sex (though Twitter itself seems fine with the latter two!).

for the old mastodon community it's not about (content) "WARNING"

It's just an editing tool with the capability to improve communication and it's heartbreaking to see how stubborn the newbees are. Stubborn to the point that they aren't even able to play around with new tools. And that says a sh**ton more about them than anything else.

You think of CW as a content warning.
I think of CW as a subject line in an email.
Or as a delicious curtain for a surprise.
Or a brief summary to save times of others.

Blackmasties go off on their rails because of a discussion about content, warning and safe spaces because the discussion was presented to them that way.

In the end you have to spaces to write with a total number of characters.
Nothing else, it's just a spoiler.
