So is anyone investigating #Friendica to replace #FaceBook?

(& no, I’m not going to set up my own server!)

@mwarhurst I will give it a try why not!

@mwarhurst #Friendica has been around quite a long time, and is still going strong, with better interconnectivity than even Mastodon. But I'm pretty sure those stuck on Facebook, will stay stuck there ;-)

But yes between Friendica and #Hubzilla they are probably the closest alternatives to Facebook as far as federated social networks go. MeWe has been doing very well but is centralised and does not federate.

@danie10 given the shift happening to Mastodon, there is the chance to start something similar for FaceBook, which many people don’t like even if they are still on it.
But it would need to be simple and you would need a mass shift like is happening away from Twitter so that people would know that friends were coming over.
This would maybe require some very friendly and simply #Friendica servers (I haven’t researched them at all yet)
@mwarhurst true, and I also saw someone mentioning doing a refresh of the UI for #Friendica as it has a dated look and feel. Making it look better would probably attract more users. That is largely why Mastodon became so popular - it had a modern look and feel.

@mwarhurst I had a look today. It looks good and probably works great.
But I feel overwhelmed. Therefore I decided for now to stick to Mastodon and will probably revive my wordpress homepage with a Mastodon plugin and might consider a feedreader of some kind iso Friendica.

That seems to be the beauty of the fediverse: you have many options to do basically the same thing.

@mwarhurst Yes, I'm using #Friendica on a shared-hosting plan. It's working quite well, but to be honest I would choose between Mastodon/Pixelfed/Friendica etc. Because they all federate and can mostly do the same things. So best to keep it simple.

For #WordPress, there is also an #ActivityPub plugin, which let's people follow your blog on the Fediverse directly.
