WASHINGTON POST.

1/2

“Several top privacy and security executives resigned from Twitter on Thursday, citing fears over the risks from Elon Musk’s leadership, in a stunning exodus that prompted federal regulators to warn they might step in. ….One current Twitter employee said several other members of the site’s privacy and security unit also had resigned”

Twitter’s already been fine $multimillion by the FTC

Twitter’s content moderation head quits as departures alarm the FTC

The resignations of three Twitter security executives prompted federal regulators to warn they might step in.

The Washington Post

2/2. When fines it was also made subject to consent decrees placing obligations on named individuals (? The team that walked out) to ensure privacy compliance and notification to the FTC.

Seems likely, with Musk’s latest blue tick wheeze that they are already in breach.

Hence walk out?

FTC are paying attention. It can fine $ billions.

Watch this space.

PS:Sorry to do this, but have just seen this. Looks as if other employment terms of service bust ups on the way.

“ A senior member of Twitter’s legal team just posted this message in Slack:“Everyone should know that our CISO, Chief Privacy Officer and Chief Compliance Officer ALL resigned last night. This news will be buried in the return-to-office drama. I believe that is intentional.”

“Twitter is a remote-first workplace, and has operated as such for years. It is a fundamental change to our employment contracts to require a 40hr a week in-office requirement. I do not, personally, believe that Twitter employees have an obligation to return to office.

“I also remind all Tweeps (at least in the US) that we have an unlimited PTO policy. All Tweeps are able to take PTO. Perhaps today is a good day to take some rest and recharge.”

“Over the last 2 weeks, Elon has shown that he cares only about recouping the losses he’s incurring as a result of failing to get out of his binding obligation to buy Twitter. He chose to enter into the agreement! All of us are being put through this as a result of his choices

Elon has shown that his only priority with Twitter users is how to monetize them. I do not believe he cares about the human rights activists, the dissidents, our users in un-monetizable regions, and all the other users who have made Twitter a global town square”

I worry about the plans to monetise our data - and in breach of consent decrees…and GDPR in the EU.

Given the levels of sackings he says current staffing is unable to maintain the platform.

I don’t have the technical competencies to judge.

But I do think it is just as likely (maybe more likely) that financial/ legal and compliance issues will get there first.

Good Lord. I’ve just read that And now Yoel Roth, Head of Trust and Safety and head of sales, Robin Wheeler resigned today.

Who is left. Yoel Roth appeared to be the person holding the safety and security messaging together the last week or so. They were on the call yesterday with Musk to to offer reassurances.

This is BAAAAD. Really BAD.

Meanwhile the Blue tick bin fire continues with multiple high profile people and companies identities being taken over and tweeting out libellous stuff under blue ticks. Bush, Blair, Biden, the Pope, Giuliani, Nintendo, OJ Simpson, Ely Lilley (offering free insulin) , Twitter Blue Tick Official, Musk, Ben Shapiro.

It’s wild.

According to Zoe Schiffer whose thread I’ve just found again to identify the source of much of the above, Elon Musk just told Twitter employees he’s not sure how much run rate the company has and “bankruptcy isn’t out of the question.“

No. I don’t suppose it is.

@Fascinatorfun certainly not if he keeps doing really stupid things with it. It needed a plaster not amputation. It wasn’t perfect but didn’t need this sort of “intervention”
@Fascinatorfun Unbelievable (or maybe not) isn’t it? How the mighty fall.
@Fascinatorfun Just had a nosey… it’s completely off the rails. Trying to export my data before the place implodes.
@Fascinatorfun it’s also predictable. He’s a moron that got lucky then went nuts.

@Fascinatorfun

It’s only gonna get worse.

@cardboarco0kie

Just spotted that and tweeted it out.

@Fascinatorfun we’ve reached the unhinged phase of the takeover.

@Fascinatorfun

They've been placed in a precarious legal (not to mention ethical) position.

Twitter
@garethj Completely untenable, I’d say
@Fascinatorfun And all so predictable. It’s bizarre. It’s as if Musk wanted to trash “the public square”. He’s a self-proclaimed engineer but he’s committed an engineering schoolboy error by muddying the meaning (and thereby destroying the value) of a blue tick.
@Fascinatorfun Press asked Twitter for comment and discovered there is no longer a comms dept. 🤷‍♂️
@Fascinatorfun Compliance walked out too. It leaves engineers potentially liable. Unbelievable. Did Jack see this happening when he sold up?
@nicola more than compliance. See my latest couple of tweets. Staggering.

@Fascinatorfun I'm about 20% convinced that he bought it to destroy it because of the mass democratising effect it has on the world.

The remaining 80% of me is convinced he just stupidly rage-signed a contract mid tantrum, then spent a month trying to get of it, realised that would be even more expensive and now has absolutely no idea what he's doing.

@Fascinatorfun Sacking Twitter’s entire Accessibility Team tells you all you need to know about his character.
@Fascinatorfun probably a good time to consider deleting the app and using only the browser interface.
@Fascinatorfun do you think it is salavagable? Is he likely to leave/sell?

@Starkadder it is so crazy, who knows. If it went into Chapter 11 would the Saudi’s who already own 25% seek to buy up the rest at bargain prices and then have astonishing control over data and political discourse in the West.

Who knows.?

@Fascinatorfun
Musk may be gambling on a Republican President to shield him from FTC scrutiny or fines.
@GregorxxxSamsa mmmm. Doesn’t feel that way to me
@Fascinatorfun
He must have some kind of strategy to save the deal.
