happy to see places silencing or blocking .online and .social. It'll make for a better experience in the end.
@zkat As in the "official" one?
@ainmosni @zkat Yep, mastodon.art has limited mastodon.social and mastodon.online as "Federating with mstdn.io who host fascism" see https://mastodon.art/about/more#unavailable-content

@rbairwell @ainmosni @zkat interesting, so presumably if they block that, then they’d be unblocked themselves?
@zkat the less of these monolithic instances stay around, the better for the overall network. And, yeah, for all of us.
@zkat for those of us who initially joined mastodon.social, it means learning how to search for servers that reflect our values. Beginning that search now.
@zkat It’s up to the instance owner at the end of the day but it’s pretty sad to see a massive chunk of the fediverse being cut off.
@hamzah they're not being "cut off". They're just not fully federated. People on there can still fully interact with others.
@zkat I just launched a server with a .social domain. What's the problem with that and why are people blocking it? I'm new to this and don't want to limit the reach.
@sean @zkat this is referring to mastodon.social and mastodon.online not referring to the .social TLD
@zkat 🤔 they’re right in that this might be the impetus to get off my rump and self host.
