Ok friends, I am thinking about mas.to as my new server location. Any tips/tricks/words of advice? Is it a good server?

The good/bad of the fediverse. I need to make sure the instance I'm on is following my values. Reading the links from the following post, I need to start shopping around. How do you judge what servers are aligned with your values?

Yesterday I posted about worries re. moderation at mastodon.social/.online: https://www.patreon.com/posts/on-our-policy-74436103 And asked the community to feed back about whether they'd like to do nothing, 'silence', or 'defederate'. The response was almost entirely in favour of silencing. Today, especially after noticing that those two instances DO federate with an instance that hosts fascist content, we went ahead with that silence: https://www.patreon.com/posts/74474015 Thank you, .art, for supporting a solid no-nazi stance. <3

Id or superego, which wins today?
I think I'll skip Web3 and wait for Web for Workgroups 3.11 right away.

If you post something and realise it should have had a content warning, or the image should have had Alt Text, you can delete and re-draft your post in one click. Super easy!

Took me a minute to adjust to the Mastodon custom of broadly using Content Warning but the software is designed to let everyone customize their experience.

The "CW" option is embedded in the publishing interface, super easy to use.

And if you don't want to keep clicking to expand stuff to read it (I surely don't), you don't have to. Preferences -> Appearance -> Sensitive Content, "Always expand posts marked with content warnings."

I am dubious of people who have 1000 points the first day of a new week in #Duolingo
It’s funny, many of the “what you need to know about Mastodon” or “how to learn about the fediverse” pieces are focused on the technology and the implementation, when the hardest thing for people to understand about this context, if they’re used to traditional social media & tech, is that here we have an expectation of _consent_. Consent if you want to be included in a conversation, consent about being amplified, consent in the form of CWs on topics that you want to manage, etc. That’s it! 🎯
