I want a 3D printer.

I don't really NEED one, mind you.

I do want one, though.

@kj7vvk can’t go wrong with an Ender 3 for (checks Amazon) $189 (!)
@ki7klt That's the creality (sp?) one, right? I've had my eye on one of theirs as an entry-level for making enclosures, standoffs and parts for my radio stuff.
@kj7vvk yup- Creality. Glass bed is a nice upgrade. This is the biggest #project I printed (everything inside this Pelican 1150 case, brackets etc)- portable wsjtx setup.
@kj7vvk What's your motivation? I find myself wanting things that are #3dprinted but not the hassle of the machine. (I've outsourced all my prints to date).

@kb9ens Mostly to make small parts for old radios that are essentially impossible to find- things like standoffs, the plastic bushings that go under the chassis, and enclosures/brackets for prototypes.

I could outsource but I like the iterative ability to experiment with a design.

@kj7vvk measure twice, print once.

Makes sense if you're doing a lot of it.

I used https://craftcloud3d.com/ (which is a marketplace thing) for iterating in PLA. Cost was low and I ended up having it printed by someone locally and I just stopped by to pick it up.

Here's one of my things: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3178194

@kj7vvk Wife is getting me a modest one for Xmas.
I found the psychological shift from i dont need one, to i need one, far far easier once i looked at ham radio prints on thingverse.
Go do that.

An internet strangers recommends it and there is no finer recommendation that that.

@kj7vvk I've been happy playing around with the Creality Ender 3, I've had it about 4 years now. It's good if you like to tinker with things. I'm looking at getting the Prusa, I would rather not tinker with the printer but just print things. I'd also like the ability to use 5 different kinds of filament. Much higher price point tho.
