#Science Twitter in Mastodon right now
@mads100tist made the same joke the other day ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
@ergyrase Great minds something something
@mads100tist I'm definitely feeling a bit this way. But still glad to be here. The discourse is so civil. And focused on the science. We are going to be okay, I think!
@mads100tist I don't know I'm kinda happy about it haha. I feel way more comfortable posting total nonsense here somehow because it feels more human to me somehow๐Ÿคฃ
@elisecutts that's very true tho
@mads100tist I'm really curious to see where this goes... I hope that human feeling doesn't go away. For the meantime just doing my best to not be more annoying than is unavoidable to the people who were already here.
@mads100tist I'm obligated to mention that the salinity of the water in the bags must be totally different from that of the sea, but these are mostly saltwater fish.
@mads100tist This is painfully accurate.
@mads100tist I'm hoping my following from Twitter ends up finding me on here. I have like 6 followers so far which is kind of depressing lol
@Haley_Sanderson_092018 we all started with 0 followers. They will come!
@Haley_Sanderson_092018 I'll listen in for a while   I'm trying to figure out how to organize my feed with the influx of new people. What sort of people were in your Twitter following?
@danwchan bioinformaticians, molecular biologist, microbiologist, guinea pig lovers, economists...a nice mix of people :)

@Haley_Sanderson_092018 sounds like a nice mix. Did they mostly find you via Twitter or some other way?

With the influx of new people I've been thinking about how I might want to reach out to my school friends throughout the ages and see if they want to sit on an instance with me.

Your mention of guinea pigs triggers a memory of this video. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=bq9ghmgqoyc

@danwchan yeah, most them I've worked with or I've found over the years on Twitter.
@Haley_Sanderson_092018 well the instance you're currently on seems new and open if the community standards are good then you should invite them over to join you :D
@danwchan I've been trying to but some people are holding onto Twitter till the bitter end. I'm sure they will eventually move over here. I don't mind if I get a new following either. :)
@Haley_Sanderson_092018 mmhmm oh actually you're not on a new instance... I thought I found you via mastodonscience.com but that was that madscientist fellow who commented on this thread. hmm interesting. I love learning about different instances through the people on them. How do you like the local of social.linux.pizza?
@danwchan It has been good. No real complaints but I also don't know what I'm doing so...lol

@Haley_Sanderson_092018 have you seen https://fedi.tips/ they're the guide I point to when folks say they don't know what they're doing

I think as long as you're going slow, interacting with the stuff you like, filtering out the stuff you don't, and reporting the stuff that's bad you'll find a place on the fediverse

@danwchan thats what I'm trying to do and so far it has been going ok. :) I'm definitely taking it slow.
@mads100tist *everyone on Mastodon right now
@mads100tist Now we wait for the celebrities I guess? What are we supposed to talk about without them?
@edrews cats. Pictures of cats. And dogs.
@mads100tist This made me snort laugh. I think this feeling is shared by every newbie to Mastodon.
