I am listening to an Elon Musk town hall and it is making me sure he's going to take twitter to zero.
@mollyjongfast we can only hope
@BlueScore4 @mollyjongfast i will never understand why he didn’t just pay the $1 billion fee and walk away from the deal.
@yeahright @BlueScore4 @mollyjongfast the commentaryI saw said that at some point that was no longer an option, he'd somehow legally (not merely psychologically) foreclosed that option.
@mollyjongfast he wants to rewrite a large chunk of the codebase.... good luck with that.
@mollyjongfast @varmazis *fires most of the coders* so anyway. Here’s a giant list of new features I want.
@varmazis @mollyjongfast especially since he's fired a good chunk of the engineers he needs to accomplish that feat.
@mollyjongfast
Anything specific that he's talking about?
@mollyjongfast sometimes I google TSLA just to get a good chuckle in
@mollyjongfast
Someone commented that it seemed like a slow motion train wreck but I don’t know, it seems like fast-forward to me.
@mollyjongfast heartbreaking for the people who work there. Not too bad for democracy.
@mollyjongfast there simply isn’t a cohesive strategy … it’s whackamole based on whatever is on his minds. Running a business isn’t a democratic process.
@mollyjongfast only Musk would, on a whim, play roulette and put it all on blue. couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
@mollyjongfast he really committed to the bit
@mollyjongfast people just need to leave Musk social and understand we the users should not empower tech oligopolies. I was barely using Twitter before the Musk takeover was announced. Because it was a cesspool of disinformation, tribalism, promoted accounts and algorithmic manipulation.
@mollyjongfast Did he announce he's going to put the whole mockingbird site behind a paywall?
@mollyjongfast what do you think is his motive? Revenge? Or political?
@rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast Never attribute to malice what you can to ineptitude.
@awkwardlefty_cj @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast - But what if the inept person is actually malicious in addition to their staggering ineptitude?
@blakek @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast In my experience, those characteristics tend to compound each other, e.g. Donald Trump.
@awkwardlefty_cj @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast - Good point. I think there was a certain element of “Ima takeover Twitter and punish them for cancelling points of view I agree with” that was driving Musk’s decision to buy the place. But the utter incompetence of how he has gone about all of this is just mind-boggling. Just another wealthy petulant man-baby who doesn’t know shite from Shinola. I wonder who ties his shoes for him every morning?
@blakek @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast I don't think he had any intention of actually buying, let alone running Twitter. It was a bluff and he took it too far. He tried to back out, but he'd signed a contract so he was stuck with it. I give it 3 months before he gets bored/tired of being relentlessly mocked for his bad ideas and puts someone else in charge while he remains nominally the CEO. That's my take anyway.
@awkwardlefty_cj @blakek @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast The problem is that $44,000,000,000 in loans Elon used to buy Twitter is now Twitter's debt. So even if Elon does get bored there is no possible way for Twitter to pay the interest on these loans. Somehow I doubt cancelling lunch is going to help.
@blakek @jckatz411 @rachelalexandria @mollyjongfast Yep, there's a decent chance the banks he borrowed from (pretty sure he only borrowed about $13 billion; he cashed out a bunch of stock for the rest) end up owning Twitter at the end of the day.
@awkwardlefty_cj @mollyjongfast I’d love to agree but I read stuff about him getting funding from other countries and I wonder.
@rachelalexandria But those are their motives, not Musk's.
@mollyjongfast i am nervously awaiting your coverage
@mollyjongfast I heard he said that tweets from unverified accounts will become like spam emails.
@Ta3meya @mollyjongfast They been like that already for verified when they could chose to ignore notifications/replies from previous unverified accounts.
@mollyjongfast
I still have an account there..last I checked, the only promoted ads in my TL were for jigsaw puzzles 😹
@mollyjongfast his statement about saying he will do a lot of dumb things in the upcoming months is going to make businesses run for the hills from Twitter.
@mollyjongfast I have no doubt Musk will destroy Twitter. I already deleted it from my phone.
@mollyjongfast Destroying it just because it amuses him.
@mollyjongfast and he deserves every bit of it.
@mollyjongfast it would awesome if you could share more of what is being said? 🙏
@mollyjongfast How long before he announces that Tesla is buying Twitter? The car already comes with a whoopee cushion, why not tweets?
@mollyjongfast in the future, a royal screw up will be known as "Musking the bird"

@reassuringurl @mollyjongfast

A bird in the hand ain’t worth 44 million-grand!

@mollyjongfast any particular points that gave a firm impression of that?
@mollyjongfast hmmm. But he sounded same (for once). Let’s see how it goes
@mollyjongfast Yes yes but but average people and democracy are so so slow. And it's hyper cool to say code all the time.
@mollyjongfast He's capable of crashing the bird but not capable of flying it. May financial gravity be karmic.
@mollyjongfast Twitter was never $44B worth to begin with. If he had left it alone, it would’ve price corrected and adjusted its market cap and expectations accordingly (like other social media companies now). He bought it as a play toy to stroke his own ego and come off as smart and likeable, so he can tuck the 1% value he’d bring to Twitter and its previous successes, under his belt. This is probably a lesson to learn as investors and shareholders on what to look for in a leader.
@mollyjongfast this is why I left twitter done and over
@mollyjongfast He's doing it so quickly, I have to wonder if it's on purpose.
@foxxtrot @mollyjongfast I’ve wondered that myself. It’d be interesting to see who, besides the house of saud, also took a flyer on the leveraged buyout.
@mollyjongfast Specially since it didn't work yesterday as it was supposed to...
@mollyjongfast hes burning it to the ground and it’s feeling purposeful
@mollyjongfast I keep trying to understand what his endgame could possibly be now that he's been forced into ownership. My only conclusion is he wishes to chase off what he considers to be "riffraff", then present it like a political gift to the former president in order to curry favor.
@mollyjongfast certainly shows he hasn’t a clue what he is doing!
@mollyjongfast His poor understanding of what he is doing made me look into how I can short TSLA. It conveyed both lazy ideas and yet something that will consume his attention. I would start to poach talent from TSLA ASAP
