@davidallengreen Twitter is just a multitude of echo chambers. I barely had any constructive exchanges with people on Twitter anymore.

Even mild disagreements lead to people insulting and blocking.

Being on Twitter means empowering Elon Musk's far right propaganda machine, making him richer with our free labour.

Actually, if the whole pro-democracy camp, and all the politicians, celebs etc, moved over here, we would have a better public town square.

@aristeon @davidallengreen

I agree David. The business model ($$$) of commercial social media is to drive interactions regardless of the quaility. Because Mastodon has no requirement for such a business model, it has been designed to facilitate higher quality interactions and therefore improve users experience.

@jimwrinkle @aristeon @davidallengreen In theory, at least, commercial social media can invest in server/human resources to support growth in user numbers. But what happens in the Mastodon fediverse if a user on a server gains millions of followers? Who funds the resources needed for that server to be able to support that user's interactions? Or will they be told to move off and set up and resource their own server? I'm unclear how the Mastodon fediverse model works so that servers can be funded to support growing user numbers and increasing interactions.
@G4OEU @jimwrinkle @davidallengreen I think the donation model can work. Especially if content creators will be able to use it to grow their audience, they will reciprocate and donate to Mastodon.
