My #SteamDeck just arrived. Anyone got game recommendations?
Love that I can get #kde desktop. Wonder if this could be my on-call laptop 🤣

@lawrencegripper

I've been considering doing the same thing tbh. I have some AR glasses, all I would need is a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

@splitshockvirus @lawrencegripper
I've heard AR glasses aren't great for desktop computing because the resolution is too low to read text comfortably for a long time.

Can you say otherwise?

@ranfdev @lawrencegripper

I've heard AR glasses aren't great for desktop computing because the resolution is too low to read text comfortably for a long time.

Well the issue in my case is that I can't use my prescription glasses while wearing mine unless I get ones specially made so text is sort of weird but is legible because I have really poor vision 😅 But I'm sure that if you better vision than 20/40 you probably can read text just fine since they have 1080p screens that are basically right in front of you.

But the ones I have are a really recent from Asia they are called Nreal Air and they are relatively affordable compared to other offerings I've seen. My main problem isn't so much with the glasses but rather that the deck only has one USB C port, and the official dock from Valve it doesn't support glasses usage while docked. Potentially you could splice displayport and external power into USB-C but I haven't looked into doing that yet.

tl;dr The steamdeck really needs two USB C ports. USB C hubs are hard to shop for which have displayport over USB C.

@lawrencegripper I mean, if you can expense it that way, that wouldn't be a bad idea now would it 😼
@lawrencegripper We all wish it could be but reality is different.. It can't be not enough power .. If you only chat n browse web maybe but that's better done on phone..
@lawrencegripper put it in a dock and it probably wouldn't be too bad. The uses of #SteamDeck seem to be continually expanding, particularly as more and more people get exposed to #linux who haven't messed with it before.
@lawrencegripper Asked myself the same thing! 😀 But I guess it'll get complicated quickly because of system user accounts.
@lawrencegripper I'm seriously considering doing my work on it with the dock at the office.
@lawrencegripper have you had success using it docked? I find that the KDE desktop on steam deck is very gimped compared to what I get with other distributions. (I admit that I likely lack the technical skill to correct my issues)
@sodapizzle nope but have a usb c dock so will give it a go tomorrow
@lawrencegripper How did it go?
@sodapizzle plugged it and it worked, keyboard, screen and network 😀
@lawrencegripper Curious about the 'Return to gaming mode' icon. Is the main deck UI just an app that's running on Wayland or does it do something else special?
@chiser99 yeah it appears to be, not dug too much, doesn’t look like it reboots so think it is an app
@lawrencegripper @chiser99 I'm guessing here but I don't think it's really an "app", I believe it's more like they built a new desktop environment where Steam is both the launcher and the window manager. No need to reboot to enter or leave it, it's just like switching between say GNOME and KDE on a regular distro. (So it's not running KDE "behind" Steam.) This is just a guess, but it seems a very sensible way to do it.

@lawrencegripper Disco Elysium and Hades are the games my friends have been playing on it

Yakuza 0 is a personal favourite

@lawrencegripper Woow good one. Guess you will spend a lot of time tweaking. I too wanted one but since its not available in my region, I opted for Aya Neo Air Pro model. Works like a charm but had to compromise on the battery life. Also #Steamdeck is quite huge, just imo.
@lawrencegripper YMMV, but: Mirror's Edge (install in desktop mode, disable PhysX), Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, My Friend Pedro, Dirt 3, Cloudpunk, Control, Baba is You are some of the games I've been playing.
@nicd @lawrencegripper
Does the original #MirrorsEdge run well on the Steam Deck? I was also thinking about using the #SteamDeck to play through the game again
@at4rax @lawrencegripper As said, you need to install it in desktop mode (I got stuck in the installer otherwise) and turn off PhysX in the settings (otherwise it'll slow to a crawl on all AMD systems whenever glass breaks). After that it worked perfectly for me. Of course, controlling Faith is different on a controller than on a mouse and keyboard so some things were more difficult for me, but I didn't have too much trouble with it.
Nicd :unverified: (@[email protected])

I swear #MirrorsEdge used to have less gunfighting. Or maybe I'm just more shit at running than I was the last playthrough.

Fosstodon
@lawrencegripper I've enjoyed Skyrim on it, but I tend to like older titles in general
@lawrencegripper Portal 2 was so much fun to play again on the Steam Deck
@totoroot oooh I loved that when I first played it. Installing now ❤️
@lawrencegripper I've heard some small games are really excellent on it, like Vampire Survivors.
@lawrencegripper I'm having lots of fun with Euro Truck Simulator but I also got xbox cloud gaming working....so got a huge library of stuff to explore there too.

@lawrencegripper

Welcome to the club! The Steam Deck really is awesome!

My kids played Spider-Man as their first game on #steamdeck runs amazing and it’s really fun!

I’ve been using mine for grinding on World of Warcraft, but I keep going back to Arcade Paradise.

Currently I’m replaying the tomb raider games, the ones where she’s rocking an awesome bow and arrow 🏹

@lawrencegripper Brotato, Risen Forbidden West, Control, Superluminal, …
@lawrencegripper Right now I'm using mine to work through my very large backlog.
valheim, elden ring, c77, stardew valley, kingdom come

@lawrencegripper

I've been playing Shadow of Mordor, it's an older game that I got when I built my first PC. It runs well at medium settings on the deck.

@lawrencegripper get some emulators on there. There are plenty of guides, and even some automated scripts.

@lawrencegripper you already have the keyboard I'd recommend, so not really :D
@lawrencegripper vendetta-online.com
i am Bihn Shelis in-game
@lawrencegripper I recently started playing Rim World. You wouldnt think it would work well on a steam deck setup since it’s a top down strategy game (it’s basically the Sims, but there’s an AI Narrator that wants your Sims to die) but it’s designed beautifully. The control scheme is PHENOMENAL on the Steam Deck. Absolutely recommend.
