Psssst. No one tell people back on the other site that edit posts works just fine over here. Shhhhhhh (At the request of a user, I have now edited this post).
@mmasnick B-but... Can anyone really be trusted with that power? To just... Be able to edit their own posts?
@dandels @mmasnick They call it the birdsite here. Another mastodon meme is that it works just like email. Speaking of which, what happens when you send an email to an account by dropping the first @ on usernames?
@mmasnick You can edit your posts? Huh, my server must not offer that yet.
@mmasnick Interesting. So, yeah, I guess it's a server-specific feature. Your server doesn't have the quote feature like mine, though.
@LouisIngenthron yeah, qoto has a bunch of different features. btw, what happens when you quote? how does that show up for me?
@mmasnick @LouisIngenthron it’s available on mastodon.social with 4.0rc1 but I don’t think any other instances have it yet.
@mmasnick 4.0 can't be released soon enough! Looking forward to edits available for all next rev!
@mmasnick it is such an amazing feeling after years of having to stare at your typos.

@mmasnick Well now you have to go ahead and edit it, if only so that we can see how it appears to readers on older installs.

Update: comme ça

@mmasnick I boosted your post and then got a notification it had been edited - so that, in addition to the asterisk, is how they're protecting against abuse (wasn't sure you knew)
@annmlipton i didn't! thanks for sharing that...

@mmasnick

cool got the notification:

Mike Masnick ✅ edited a post

Yet my Boost & Favorite persisted the edition !

@mmasnick I just realized that fosstodon doesn't have it either, not sure if this is something "new" or old but has to be enabled by admins.
@mmasnick But it doesn't! There is Delete And Redraft, but that's not the same thing at all. Any replies to the original version become orphaned.
@mike your instance must not be running the latest version... mine has edit.
@mmasnick Interesting! I have very mixed feelings about that. I do NOT like the idea of replying to something, then having the context of my words retroactively changed.
@mike edited posts have it noted that they are edited. and apparently it notifies people who boosted the post. not sure about people who replied.
@mmasnick @mike indeed, that is why you get the notification.
@mmasnick OK, some thought has evidently gone into this. Good to know.
@mmasnick @mike I see Edit in the browser but not in #tusky
@mmasnick wow. In did not know that.
@mmasnick I was charmed to find out that you get a little asterisk in the top right of the post after you edit a post. Since I can only see typos after I hit the publish button I find the edit function very nice.

@mmasnick Hello, Mike! My name is Said, nice to meet you.

I don’t have an “edit posts” option in the drop down menu, only the option to either “delete and revise” or “delete.” Is that normal?

I’m currently using Metatext by the way.

@amirsaid looks like only the servers updated to the latest version have it...
@mmasnick ahhh, ok. Thank you!
@mmasnick Ah sweet and it shows the history of changes! 🙌
