My #INTRODUCTION: Actor first. Playwright next. Moved to LA to write 1/2 hour comedy (was not that funny). Then film (hated the culture). Then TV. Then Showrunning, which suited me perfect. I am a sheep dog at heart. I wake up thinking about sheep; about keeping them safe from wolves and fed and warmed. I spend my day doing that and then when I sleep...I dream of sheep. I may have written shows you know, but I've yet to write the thing that defines me...
...which is what I'm trying to work out right now. I'm addicted to story and the craft of writing (specifically for television). I love demystifying it. I am a father. And a son. And a brother. I am a Progressive. I believe on trying to meet people where they are, not where I want (or think they should be). I did these Showrunner rules at "the old place," which I will repost here soon...as I start the process of turning them into a book. I have a life long...
...obsession with baseball, the Chicago Cubs specifically. I suffered through all the darkest of years...was AT the Bartman game...and truly bathed in the glory that was their World Series win in 2016...and then the entire country fell apart. If I had a time machine...I'd give up that win to restore sanity. Anyway, that's me...nice to meet you.
@JeffLieber Hi! *waves* I followed you here because I loved your content in "the old place." I didn't realize you were also a baseball fan. Life long Red Sox fan here. And I married a Yankees fan. Not sure how that works, but it does.
@christinaweir Man, I don't know if I could fall in love with a Yankee fan without wanting to reform them. Glad you're here!
@JeffLieber He makes an excellent writing partner so I put up with his team. :) This place is new and strange but I'm open to new adventures!
@JeffLieber The Cubs is worth a follow from me, right there. Hello. I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan. There was a *lot* of pain in my life for a very long time.....

@JeffLieber I had that thought too - I would have preferred that Hillary had won in 2016 instead of the Cubs

Maybe something good will come of it long-term 🤷‍♂️ It's all we got

@JeffLieber Nice to get a more in-depth introduction. Looking forward to “The Rules” whether posted here or as a book (I read them every time you post, but always glean something new).

@JeffLieber only have one thing to say...
GO CUBS!

I saw many games at Wrigley, starting with the Kessinger and Santo days, the miserable 70s, and have stuck ever since.

@JeffLieber Ah...the Cubs. I lived just down the street from Wrigley in the 80s and spent a lot of afternoons in the bleachers drinking and watching them lose. My son's dream is to go see a game live, but we haven't been able to work it out yet. The closest we have gotten so far is visiting Wrigley in the off-season.

@JeffLieber I'm also addicted to story, and the craft of writing.

My defining project will be the adaptation of my award-winning fantasy books for TV. I also love baseball, though I'm a Cleveland Guardians fan (2016, devastating, but still happy for the Cubs). I'm looking forward to your book!

@JeffLieber

It’s funny that you took that path. I too started out as an actor and I distinctly remember way back when that I had absolutely no interest in writing. That changed quite a bit when I joined the message boards at Project Greenlight. I started hanging out with writers and I realized I had a knack for it. I’m glad you found your niche in the entertainment business and can do something that matches up nicely with your skills.

@thompintello I mostly started writing because I was impatient for people to create material for me to act in. I just figured...fuck it, I'll do it myself. Big problem was...I'm a hideous dyslexic, which slowed me tow. All I can say is...despite the current moment...technology (autocorrect)(mostly) saved me.
@JeffLieber I wear sheep slippers and collect stuffed sheep toys.
@JeffLieber Write sheep, sleep. Repeat.
@JeffLieber Hi Jeff! New follower here and welcome!
@JeffLieber Welcome aboard, Jeff. Glad you’re here!

@JeffLieber What was it about the culture of film that you didn't like?

--a person who is deciding between turning a short film script into pilot or spec feature

@danielleellen Writers are treated as interchangeable parts on a world where we seem to be resented for being the original providers of an actionable blueprint.

@JeffLieber That jibes with my (limited) experience. Thanks. Makes the decision easier.

How disappointing though for film.

@danielleellen There are absolutely some better sitchos, but my general film experience was…less bueño.
