PSA:

There's Politics happening a few places around the world right now.

Please, /please/, place all political posts behind a content warning. It's actually in our Code of Conduct as a strong suggestion, but if we see anyone posting heavy political content frequently and without a CW, we will 'limit' the account (at the very least) so that the post don't show up on the public timeline.

Be considerate of the mental health of your online neighbours.

If you think it's wise/smart/cool/edgy to reply to this with 'all art is political', entirely refusing to recognise the point and spirit in which this post was made, I'll remove your ability to see all of the cute, astonishing, inspiring, whimsical, beautiful 'political' art from here.

@Curator But what is "political" in the spirit, this post was made? Portraits of politicians? Caricature of politicians? Editorial Cartoons? Bold statements like in some print I saw on Insta with the text "women just want to have fun(damental rights)?"
A reminder to vote?

Who am I to judge, if something is hurting the mental health of my online naighbours? Should all the art disappear behind CWs?

@Curator That sounds like a good solution at first, but in the long run it would mean that there would be a warning on every picture. Food, politics, animals, insects, body, beauty, illness, death, family, violence, birth, baby, nudity, ...
And you would never know whether behind "violence" there is a huge slaughter or an image that has only remotely to do with violence.
Consequently, the ALT text would have to be displayed first and then everyone could make a conscious decision based on that.

Extreme, but yep, now you're getting it. Food, politics, insects, nudity, illness, death, violence, are all things that we encourage users to CW.

That's why there's a text field to explain why something has a CW.

"Consequently, the ALT text" - no, the alt text is still attached to the image and hidden under the CW. The CW just gets an overview.

@delight_aug a common issue with food is that it can be a really bad trigger for people with eating disorders. Images or mention of food or exercise can cause relapses etc. @Curator @MartinLeurs

@delight_aug I don't know, perhaps someone with an eating disorder. I have seen these CWs on Twitter. And to be clear, I don't jugde someone who gets hurt by seeing food or someone eating, but I don't think, that a CW on every image is a good solition.

@MartinLeurs you got to understand that this instance have a culture where CWs are appreciated, but not forced upon. Some people CW a lot of stuff. Others dont. It is in the end up to your own intuition. But if you dont CW your posts you will get less reblogs and more people will simply just mute you so they dont have to see your posts with no CW on the local tl.

@delight_aug @Curator @MartinLeurs some people have eating disorders or other issues that are food related. We don't force people to view our content, we invite them to decide if they want to engage. Clicking on the eye icon takes seconds, but being traumatised can take days to recover.

@delight_aug @Curator @MartinLeurs Some people have eating disorders, so it's helpful to let them decide if they want to see food. And some people are struggling to feed themselves, so they might not want pictures of a luxury dish.

seeing pictures of food can be distressing (or even just annoying) for e.g. people who are currently on a diet, fasting, or have eating disorders.

@delight_aug @Curator @MartinLeurs it may have to do with people suffering from food related disorders or some form of food art may be trigger-potential. Its okay to CW food as I'm likely to click on a CW if it is tagged food haha
