"Tux rapping from a stage on a crowded rap concert in a dark underground club, anime style"

Yo, listen up, I got a story to tell,
About an OS that's been through hell,
Linux, the underdog, but still standing tall,
Even when other OSes just fall.

They say Macs are smooth, with a glossy shine,
But they're just a trap, all built to decline.
Windows, they're known, but oh what a pain,
Constantly crashing, just driving you insane.

But Linux, it's strong, it's built to last,
No viruses, no hassle, it moves fast.
It's the underdog, but don't you forget,
It's the one that will always be the best bet.

So don't let the others bring you down,
Linux, it's your time to wear the crown.
It's the OS that's built to survive,
And will always keep you alive.

Why post it here? Because one thing I don't like about Twitter is posting anything
The thing I like about #twitter

I should note, that the problem isn't in quote tweets, and can happen without them anyway. In fact, quotes can be used as effectively for positive stuff, and I often see it used like that in the visual artists community.

The problem is in the culture. That is also why I believe Mastodon can become the same toxic place — as soon as it will get enough public people involved.

One of the things holding me from deleting my Twitter account was Ukrainian accounts.

The thing is, there was no big Ukrainian community on Twitter, you could rarely see a youtuber here, nevermind a general public. That's until some time after the invasion people understood importance of being "on the informational front" to cancel whoever happen to spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda among westerners.

This is a noble goal. However, while it looks kinda effective, it has also cursed people with the Twitter's attitude of harassment. Now, I regularly see how popular Ukrainians semi-accidentally start a harassment of other Ukrainians without any thought.

All they have to do to start a friendly-fire with "jackal express" (that's how we call the cancelling mob) is to quote a tweet and say something even remotely negative about it, and their followers will follow with all kinds of takes. Though, usually it's way more civil than jackal express for propagandists.

So we recently made a Fedora Workstation t-shirt highlighting some of the key projects we created or work on as part of @fedora Workstation namely @PipewireP , @containertoolbx , @BoxesGNOME, @FlatpakApps. If you reblog this you will be added to a drawing to get one. (Giving out 5 here and 5 on twitter)

Algorithms aren't the enemy. Chronological feeds don't scale and the signal-to-noise ratio will plummet if this ever gets popular. The real problems with today's algorithmic feeds are non-transparency, lack of choice, and optimizing for engagement instead of healthy discourse.

Open-source is a perfect opportunity to fix all this. Have there been any efforts to create a Mastodon instance with a (community governed) ranking algorithm? Is that technically feasible? Or is the idea simply anathema?
