Goodmorning Mastodon! It's Monday, so let's talk about work.

I hope y'all are looking forward to your work week. And if not, I hope you can find ways to make it suck a little bit less.

I work for a VoIP provider (calling over the internet) as what can best be summarized as 'Head of Culture' except that we don't use a conventional management system nor the associated conventional job titles.

Today I'll make a thread where I'll toot throughout my workday.
#holacracy #organizationaldesign

Starting this morning by hosting the company's all-hands meeting.
This is something we do twice per month and in 30 minutes we share updates about the most important things happening in the organization.

All this information is available at all times anyway, but we've grown to the size (>150 ppl) where it's hard to keep up sometimes.

I started working from home this morning. I'll make my way to the office later for a 1:1 meeting.
More than half of my colleagues work from home most of the time or almost always, myself included. I just worked three weeks from Spain. We only go to the office when it really adds something, mostly for social interaction. This is up to everyone for themselves to define.

But first: COFFEE

Next up after the all-hands meeting and #coffee: the weekly review! This is a concept from the Getting Things Done methodology where you review the past week, collect all action items you have, and get ready for the week ahead.
I do this with a notebook, my to-do list and projectboard.

#GettingThingsDone

Spend the morning gently reminding people to do stuff they said they would do and getting updates. Then walked to the office (30min) to grab lunch with colleagues.

Next up, a 1:1 meeting with a coworker who does our Social Impact Strategy about our fulfillment model...

#WorkToots #OrganizationalDevelopment

...Fulfillment model, you ask?

Creating personal value and well-being for the people working in the organization.

Basically, the idea that work *can* be enriching and rewarding, if done right.

And to be very clear: the onus to do it right is on the employer.

#WorkToots #OrganizationalCulture

Whew! What an afternoon.
Turned out to be a series of back-to-back talks and meetings. Not so much time for updating you all along the way. Sorry about that!
After the talk about the fulfillment model I had a talk with three of my teammembers where we touched upon lots of topics, including organizational values, our own experiences with equal collaboration and...it ended as a spontaneous round of book recommendations!

Which are always welcome, obviously 😇

And then followed by a 'donut meeting' with a colleague I haven't talked to in a while and it was super nice to catch up.

We have a slackbot that randomly pairs people together for an informal chat. We got matched. We talked about the choice to have children or not. He has three. I want none.

It's nice to skip the smalltalk and dive straight into this kind of stuff.

And last but not least, a quick spontaneous talk with a colleague on my team who has a bit too much on his plate right now, which ended with him dropping one of his roles.
Healthy boundaries 🤗

#Holacracy

Followed by a rainy walk home in the dark, ugh.
Autumn has barely started and I'm already DONE.
