It's not 'America' coming apart!

Its a schism between Americans who support a multicultural, multiracial, multilingual America that centers fair socioeconomic opportunity for all

& those that want a theocratic Christian evangelical white ethnostate that centers economic elites

@black_intellect This post is the most accurate thing I think I've read all day. WHAT HAVE YOU WRITTEN PLS???
@JeromeySims Thanks so much for the kind words. There's a link to my substack in my bio
@black_intellect This sums it up distressingly well. I had thought we all bought into "melting pot", "land of opportunity", etc. I fear I was naïve—or at least understood those notions differently.

@black_intellect

Yeah it's pretty easy to see where the dividing line is now

Theocratic vs Secular
Authoritarian vs Democratic
Rural vs Urban
White supremacy vs Diversity
Past vs Future

How it breaks down in terms of population percentages is often also skewed; it isn't 'half' the country that is the MAGA tards, it's less than 20%.

@serialtwo_six @black_intellect rural vs urban is a false dichotomy, our common enemy are the suburban people who only care about cars and having big houses.
@black_intellect Thank you, perfect. If only this simple truth would finally seep into common news reporting.
@black_intellect concur! This encapsulates what is happening so well. Do we have an example of any nation (or past civilization) that has successfully transitioned to a pluralistic democracy?
@black_intellect
You just covered the all the bases!
So what's the remedy & plan?
@black_intellect also, Christ has nothing to do with it. Christ was not white and wealthy, so it's baffling how anyone would hide behind Christianity as an excuse to promote wealthy white elites. It's the exact opposite of everything He represents 🤔 It makes absolutely no sense. Isn't it fascinating that the arguments that sustain those biased social norms are essentially wrong?
@AmadoSilvia @black_intellect Google “Prosperity Gospel” or Wikipedia it. It’s a scam started decades ago and it’s central to this.
@samhainnight @black_intellect thank you. I did not know of this. so they do believe they are favoured.

@AmadoSilvia @black_intellect Who cares what 'christ' said? If he ever existed. Christianity has been the religion of tyrants since Constantine, countless ethnic cleansings and genocides have taken place under it's auspices.

Not to mention millions, perhaps billions, of people throughout history who have lived and died under its mental and physical repression.

“Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.”

― Denis Diderot

@SocialistStan @black_intellect You missed the point. If they believe in Christ, they should follow the message he conveys. Which is the opposite of what they represent. They change the message "we are all sons of God" to "we are the favourite sons so we have more rights than others". Men use religion and politics to sustain and justify their will for power and control. So when you talk about mental and physical repression Socialism, Communism, Fascism and Islamism, are all examples of that.
@black_intellect THANK YOU for stating so elegantly what I've been struggling to articulate!
@black_intellect America has always been a theocratic white ethnostate since the days of the Puritains. What is being born is a new society, and should be accompanied by entirely new systems.
@black_intellect not mutually exclusive. That is the country falling apart after only a very short period of time where there was some progress towards normality and equality.
@black_intellect l
Or, to summarize, a schism between good and evil
@black_intellect The American problem, if one simply goes by election results, is that there are an equal number of Americans on each side of the divide.
@Gordon1956 the even divide is actually among white Americans. Americans of color (and young white Americans) are overwhelmingly supportive (more than 60% in favor) of progressive policies that combat growing economic inequality.
@black_intellect @Gordon1956 exactly right. - the coalition in favor of inclusion has a clear numerical majority and is growing due to demographics among other reasons. That's why we are seeing attacks on democracy, whether violent or legislative. Job #1 for us is to keep the coalition together. Happily the crazy coming from their side is helping with that project!
@black_intellect @Gordon1956 and thank you for making the link between evangelical-white-ethocentrism and the centering of economic elites - that's a formation that might not be as durable as is looks!
@Gordon1956 @black_intellect The pool of people who actually vote is nowhere close to the actual demographics of the U.S. It only appears to be a country split 50/50 because of historical artifacts around the way we do our federal system (eg electoral college & 2 senators per state) and voter suppression.
@sfierbaugh @black_intellect Regardless of the electoral college, 74 million Americans cast their vote for Trump. 74 million vs the 81 million that voted for Biden. That's a country divided to me, and a country where a huge number of people supports a pathological liar, and criminal.
@Gordon1956 @black_intellect Yes, but that's 150M out of twice that many total. Half the country either can't vote or doesn't care enough to vote. That's bad but not the same as saying half the country supports a criminal. Really, about 1/4 the country supports a criminal. Which is actually still pretty sad... 😞
@sfierbaugh @black_intellect That's 150 million Americans of "voting" age. Not every living American is old enough to vote. And at 66.8%, the 2020 election had the highest eligible voter turnout in the 21st century. It wasn't like people were disinterested and stayed home. It was the highest voter turnout in decades. And almost half of those voters, supported a criminal and pathological liar. I don't see how anyone can conclude the country is not divided.
@Gordon1956 @black_intellect I'm not suggesting it isn't divided. I'm suggesting it isn't a simple 50/50 divide. It's a double divide. Half the country passionately cares and the other half doesn't or is prevented (age or voter suppression). Of the half that cares, half of that support a criminal.
@sfierbaugh @black_intellect Hi Stephen. My last thoughts on this. Highest voter turnout in the 21st century, the highest turnout since 1960. Voters were engaged. 74 million voted for Trump, 81 million voted for Biden. That's a country very nearly equally divided. Happy New Year to you and yours.
@Gordon1956 So you're saying the US only has 155 million people over the age of 18, cause the 2020 census says there's 258.3 million people over 18.
@sfierbaugh @black_intellect
@lunar No. I said 66.8% of eligible voters (see earlier discussion) voted, and of those, 74 million voted for Trump, and 81 million voted for Biden. In any poll, those numbers would absolutely and accurately reflect the voting intentions of 100% the eligible population.
@Gordon1956 except voting has a selection bias where only the more wealthy people can vote and poorer people are dissuaded from voting through threats of violence, so your extrapolation would just be wrong. This is why conservatives push for voter suppression, it's the only way they can stay in power.
@lunar Except that at 66%, the 2020 election had the highest voter turnout in the Divided States since the 1960's, and that percentage is as high, and exceeds, the voting rate that occurs in most democracies. And because the majority voted Democrat, voter suppression by the conservatives is not a determining factor in extrapolating the voting intentions of the majority. I didn't hear anyone in the Divided States shouting that they couldn't get to the polls.
@black_intellect not unlike the winning/dying in the game of thrones, there is no in between here.
@[email protected] Totally agree and would expand this to include Canada, and more specifically, Alberta too. One benefits everyone, the other only benefits those with money and power, as the patriarchy has a long history of doing.
@black_intellect
Excellent distillation. Thank you!
@black_intellect If that isn't it, what is "coming apart?"

@black_intellect this is the best summation of "make sure you are on the right side of history" I've ever read. I am undergoing a three year process of "deconstructing" from my Christian faith, which has only accelerated in the current cultural and political climate.

While the second half of your post scares me, the first part gives me hope that we can create a safer, more equitable and sustainable world for future generations.

@black_intellect it's like a fault that's been there all this time.
@black_intellect I cannot find a good way to make clear to the former that the latter *will* kill or enslave the former to the last if given the chance.

@black_intellect

💯

The polarization narrative (parallel radicalization of left and right) is nonsense.

MAGA train has jumped the track, no longer running from or toward democracy or civic/constitutional patriotism.
