Another #MastodonTip for people of the #TwitterMigration (other than using camel case for hashtags) is that Mastodon instances are not run by corporations with thousands of employees. Usually it is just a handful of volunteers and an instance owner or two.

A huge influx of users, like this, all at once is a lot to handle. Stuff may break or slow down for a bit.

It'll be okay. Things will level out & it will all work again. The same thing happened in back in April.

Be calm. Carry on.

@GreatBigTable think you for doing all you can

@Duppifox Thanks, but I am not an instance owner or Mastodon developer, but @Gargron is for this instance and I am sure he appreciates everyone's patience.

He also has a patreon that helps run his instances and pay for the further development of Mastodon:

@GreatBigTable @Duppifox @Gargron thanks for confirming what the Patreon covers; I had tooted @Gargron but he's got a lot on his plate right now. I've transferred what I was paying for my access on the m.tech instance over since I'm here full time now, and @[email protected] has had to shut the instance down.

@flexsite @Duppifox @Gargron @[email protected]

These are the goals listed on the Patreon page:

Goal 1, $5K/month, met:
* Main developer wage (full-time)
* Hosting of mastodon.social
* Hosting of mastodon.online
* Hosting of joinmastodon.org

Goal 2, $12K/month, ongoing:
* Multiple developers for the main project
* Multiple developers for official iOS/Android apps
* Multiple UX designers
* Hosting of mastodon.social
* Hosting of mastodon.online
* Hosting of joinmastodon.org & related services

@GreatBigTable And if I might add to this, if you find your local instance useful and interesting, donate to it! Hosting and bandwidth costs are a thing, and we users need to financially support things like this directly if we ever hope to move away from the ad/surveillance-driven version of the internet.
@GreatBigTable on my own #Mastodon server with hardly any content or people the influx from #TwitterMigration has been rather manageable 😂 .
@GreatBigTable

"A huge influx of users"

we'll see if there is observable change this time, I didn't notice anything in April
@GreatBigTable

I see one person from Norway, 1-3 from Sweden, 0-1 from Finland
It has been the same since I got here (one year ago)
"A huge influx of users" is somewhere else I guess.
@otso @gargon reports over 10,000 users in the last day and 20,000 in the last week. That seems like a lot.
@otso I am noticing a LOT more engagement than back in April. We'll see how it goes.
