talking to ttrpg people is like "do i play d&d? oh no of course not, you see [39 minute explanation of why d&d players are killing the hobby and are worse than satan]. i do have these 18 books for games i kickstarted for $40 each, i have never played any of them but they're really exciting. also none of them have any rules"
"hey if that's not your jam we can always play one of the 288 one-page rpgs i got on itch"
part of why i don't play any non-d&d ttrpgs is so i don't have to talk to these people
rules-lite is one thing but i just want to grab some of these people and shake them by the shoulders yelling "YOU CAN JUST WRITE A BOOK TOGETHER"
like whatever play whichever games you want, if you're having fun i'm happy for you. but you're not having a better, more enlightened form of fun than i am because i like to deal DAMAGE with NUMBERS that come from DICE
@monorail I quite like the ttrpg games that exist but I also like DnD I don't understand what people hate about DnD so much other than... wanting to try something else?
@monorail like especially the OSR people that shit is just DnD but you're really really mad that DnD is printed in color

@monorail as a semi-reformed 90s World of Darkness snob who watches a lot of Dimension 20 and some years ago read that exhaustive prehistory of the development of dungeons and dragons called Playing At The World...

I think D&D is great! I'd love to play some time!

@monorail Can't believe they delayed the release of the Kickstarter for a ttrpg that's just a scrap of paper with "pretend you're space pirates or some shit" on it AGAIN.

@monorail dealing damage with numbers that come from dice is extremely good

we're playing a d&d 4e game at the moment in our household, but with the standard d20 replaced with 3d6 to curve the probability a little

this edition of d&d is still pretty bad in all the ways people were saying it was when the game actually released? 3.0 forever lol

but we're havin a good time, especially since our dungeon master mister cavern mxtress cavern is eager to patch the suckier rules

@monorail on the other hoof i also adore risus, which has damage that comes in chunks of Exactly One and Exactly Three

lots of rpgs good lol

there's a reason d&d is the foundation of the hobby and is still enduring to this day despite every edition released since 2000 being mathematically worse

@00dani @monorail
i mean i like 5e but 3.5 has a lot of granularity that it doesn't (i haven't read 3e or earlier tbh)
