I'm looking for a small piece of musical software that could be used to create little tunes and noises for 8-32 bit video games.

Nothing as complex as a DAW, but something open source, straightforward and can complement #godotengine and #piskelapp

Any suggestions? Thanks!

@minimaldotclick sfxr? that's not really tunes, just noises
maybe sunvox? it's somewhat complex tho
@aynish not one I know. I'll take a look at it and see if it fits with me. Thanks.
@aynish @minimaldotclick +1 for sunvox. quite versatile and simple on its face but as deep as you would like it to go. can be embedded as it’s own engine depending.

@inscript @aynish

I've been having a look, you can make incredible music with it by the looks of things. I bet just tweaking the synth correctly you can make 'coin collecting noise', 'bang into wall noise' etc for games.

Thanks!

@minimaldotclick https://famistudio.org/ is a good starter if you'd like a friendly(ish) interface and a chiptuney sound, exports to wav, ogg or a native NES format if you're targeting actual NES hardware
FamiStudio - NES Music Editor

FamiStudio is a simple music editor for the Nintendo Entertainment System or Famicom. It is targeted at both chiptune artists and NES homebrewers.

@voxel ooh, thanks. Didn't know that one. I'll give it a play. 👍🏼
