This semester at #BerkleeOnline, I'm taking the first in a series of #arranging courses. It's now week 5, and we've gotten to #bass ... and I'm so in love ❤️

(I've had a listener's passion for #jazz bass my whole life ... )

Our #homework assignments this week were to add bass lines to snippets of scores we got as staves of music in #Sibelius files.

I exported the MIDI from #Sibelius and did the mixing in my #DAW (Presonus #StudioOne). #Drums were missing, so I added those too 😄

For #bass, I'm using #kontakt's #jazz upright bass; for #piano, I'm using a tone-modified sampled "German grand" (from VI Labs), with extra dark tones to give it the jazz club feel. #Drums are from #Toontrack (I couldn't justify the expense of Superior Drummer, so I went the EZ Drummer route) and their "Basic Jazz" add-on.

Okay, now for some #jazz snippets!

Here's "Autumn Leaves" w/original #walkingbass line and #drums added (i.e., only #piano was provided):

Next up is "Autumn Leaves" again, but this time the #jazz #bass is playing a #twofeel bass line and I've replaced the piano with some mellow #jazzguitar 😄

(as you can probably tell, I'm RELALY enjoying this #BerkleeOnline arranging course)
