I've talked a lot about #Science today (and I have a lot more I want to say about science, but one can only handle so much tooting in one day!) but I'm also very into #reading!

I recently finished my 50th #book in 2022. I've used this year to reprioritize things and refocus on myself, which includes more self care through reading ❤️ 📚

So I'd love to get connected with more #readers! While my to-be-read pile continues to grow at an alarming rate, I am still always looking for suggestions!
@_astronoMay fiction or nonfiction?
@Noah420 Currently fiction! My backlog of nonfiction is not necessarily larger, but I read them less often so it'll last me longer
@_astronoMay Do you like older work/ classics or newer? Happy or sad? Love or dread?

@Noah420 I read old, I read new, I read happy, I read sad, I read love, and I read dread!

(super helpful I know!)

Generally I just like to know what other people's favorite books are! If it's something that interests me I'll usually pick it up too :)

@_astronoMay I mean Dostoevsky deserves a read before you die. I'd recommend some Kierkegaard with it. Either/or is more literature than homework.

Stoner by John Williams is a good one. Or A Death in the Family by karl ove knausgaard. Probably my favourite pure novels.

@_astronoMay Avid reader here, though I'm nowhere near 50 books for 2022! Currently several books behind my current reading goal...What are you currently reading? North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell for me, a reread mostly inspired by my longing to rewatch the BBC adaptation. 😅
@hawksquill I'm currently reading Dawn by Octavia Butler! Then I plan to go back and finish the Broken Earth trilogy
@_astronoMay Nice. The Broken Earth trilogy is on my miles-long to read list, though I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I have read Jemisin's short story collection How Long Til Black Future Month?, highly recommend!
@hawksquill I've heard great things about all of her books! I've also been told that the Inheritance Trilogy is better than Broken Earth, so that's on my list too!
@_astronoMay @hawksquill If your enjoying Dawn, check out Nnedi Okorafor. Her Binti Trilogy gave me a Dawn vibe to it. I’ve also read Noor and Who Fears Death, which may be one of the most memorable books I’ve read or it just hit me a certain way. I’ve also heard it’s turning into a TV series by George R.R. Martin
@raukaraka @_astronoMay Love the Binti series! Her Akata Witch series is also great.

@_astronoMay @hawksquill

Broken Earth was going to be the top of my recommend list. Do it!

It's dark, but sooo good.

@_astronoMay currently reading 52 books this year as a challenge!

@_astronoMay I don't know if you've read it, but one of my favourite sci-fi series is Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy (Red Mars, Blue Mars, and Green Mars).

Highly recommended!

@stenpett I've heard of this before! I'll add it to my list!
@_astronoMay Hi Erin, some suggestions if you’d like to look into any of them. The First Astronomers by Duane Hamache, The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, The Red Planet by Simon Morden, his novels are also fantastic. He’s become one of my favorite authors to read. Losing Mars by Peter Cawdron and The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
@raukaraka love love love the Murderbot Diaries! I've read the first four so far!
@_astronoMay I'm currently enjoying some easy 'holiday' science fiction - revisiting the original Aliens Omnibus series that passed me by when they were originally released. Also some of the newer additions to the universe (Phalanx, Cold Forge, Big Hunt etc...). Passing the time on rainy days when I don't fancy sitting in front of the screen! Would recommend some of the newer additions!
@_astronoMay I can heartily recommend the new #SF novel Plenum: The First Book of Deo, by Geoffreyjen Edwards. (I co-edited this book, and am the publisher!) But I wouldn’t recommend it if not for your expressed #reading interests. (Octavia Butler and Ursula K. Le Guin are huge influences on Edwards, who came to fiction-writing out of an academic career as an astrophysicist.) #Plenum is a far-future space opera that deals with issues of #gender and #faith. https://untimelybooks.com/book/plenum-the-first-book-of-deo

@_astronoMay 50 books in 4 months is crazy. Wow. I think I read 42 books in a year a few years ago. These days, I am shooting for 1 book a month.
@_astronoMay I can really recommend the books by Becky Chambers, and one of my favourite lighter books recently was Honey Girl :) what are books you recommend?
@lucik I love so many of Becky Chambers's books! Have you read the new Monk & Robot one?? One of my top reads of the year.
