Julian Assange and artist Pak have created a fundraiser NFT and then a DAO has raised 4 million dollars to buy it.

Years ago WikiLeaks showed the clear usecase for crypto when all the legacy payment processors abandoned them but they managed to continue raising funds via Bitcoin.

Now GoFundMe under political pressure are refusing to pay out funds raised for the truckers in Canada.

Wen truckerDAO?

A DAO trying to free Julian Assange has raised $4 million and counting

AssangeDAO, formed by "a collective of cypherpunks," is raising funds to be used to fight for the freedom of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

@jcbrand
We believe #fundraising is the wrong approach, and to best free #Assange. Best #protest and #withholdLabour now.

Giving money may feed the #lawfare/#torture.

We don't like to consider such but its possible Julian is already dead. They've normalised #videoLink and #segregation. He may be #deepFaked now.

Are they using the Amazon-centralised, #ethereumScamTokens for this or a #bitcoin-backed token? Can be corrected, but we think a living, clear-thinking #JulianAssange wouldn't do this.

@dsfgs

Given that there is no protest nor people withholding labor, I think the point is moot.

Sounds a bit paranoid to me too assume Assange is dead and they're using deep fakes.

I like this story because it shows that any tech can have good uses, even if people like to feel morally superior by bashing NFTs (many of which I personally also find dumb).

@jcbrand
Just because it is not televised that doesn't mean #protests are not happening.

Yes, we appreciate that it sounds conspiratorial to suggest that Assange is already dead. We don't like to entertain such but have no choice.

The #ethScamTokens are centralised on Amazon servers and make crypto about fiat again, which is why they are prioritised in legacy media discussion over real cryptocurrency, do we know how Assange's #DAO works (we don't access CloudFlare websites).

@dsfgs

It's all on Ethereum. I'm not the biggest Ethereum fan, but I'd rather not let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

In this case, I'm happy for Assange if he gets the money and I'm happy that it's happening largely outside of the legacy financial system.

@jcbrand

> It's all on Ethereum

ETH is centralised and controlled by Amazon and those with 'stake'. So its either a #PRCampaign for the #moneyLaundering Trojan Horse or the funds will be seized. The former is most likely.

> perfect vs good

Eth doesn't approach 'good', its unfortunate, but not. Bitcoin development is subsuming it.
