I am looking for like-minded people in the fediverse for sharing thoghts, projects and information about woodworking, woodcarving and especially spoon carving. How can I find these people?
Are there any existing groups or servers with these topics?
Retoots / Boosts are appreciated!

@aramloosman I just ordered the tools to get started!
@aramloosman I'm actually just starting to learn now, and I'd like to be able to talk to people who know what they're doing.

@aramloosman I started watching Jögge Sundqvist's knife grip videos a couple weeks ago and set my first spoon to dry last week. I've made and shared pictures of a couple craft tools here and am having a great time with learning about and finding ways to practice crafting.

Very happy to see you sharing your work.

@aramloosman @aramloosman
Salut! I'm a french #woodworker and especially spoon #carver, i will be glad to share with you and the #fediverse

@aramloosman I'm an aspiring woodworker/carver, but time is a problem so I mostly stick to garden carpentry at the moment.

@aramloosman Woodworker / occasional spooncarver here. Two clean ones (one yellow from turmeric), two dirty ones in transit from the kitchen.

That large one of yours is very pretty! Haven't succeeded in making one with that shape.

@aramloosman I'm not really a wood carver myself but my partner is, so I have an interest
@aramloosman I've made a few spoons, but it's not something I do on a regular basis. Does that count?
@aramloosman I want to do spoon carving! I have the tools, yet no wood... And no energy at the moment, sadly. But I will!
@aramloosman I have tools but they're dull and I've gotta figure out how to sharpen them before actually carving.
@aramloosman Looks like you might have a lot of overlap with the Merveilles community?
@maxc is creating nice wood working projects and I believe @oppen is into spoon carving specifically. :)
@aramloosman
Very pretty spoons! 😀👍My husband is a woodcarver and artist with passion. But unfortunately he gave up on social media (namely Twitter) a while ago and I couldn't (yet) convince him to join in here. Nonetheless if he does, I'll make sure to point into your direction. 😊 And if you do find a server for ppl who love working with wood, please let me know! 🥺
@aramloosman I just started spoon carving this year. I will share some examples as I have only just joined here and stumbling my way around the platform. Lovely spoons !!
@aramloosman Some grow trees, some carve them.
@aramloosman Amazing! I would love to learn how to do this! 🤩
@aramloosman *lifts her hand* I think I qualify for this... somehow?
@aramloosman Hi!! I am new to greenwood spoon carving, having started in spring of 2022. Not sure I have much to share other than my spoons. I’m still pretty green on the education scale.
@thereal_lisamarie That's a lovely spoon!
@aramloosman thanks so much, sorry for not responding sooner, my phone app for Mastadon is somewhat lacking, I have a better experience on my desktop
@aramloosman there’s @Artanux ✌️
@Seth @Artanux
I know 😄
@aramloosman @Artanux haha sorry i dobt have other names in mind for now^^
@Seth
No problem, thanks for the heads up.
It has been quite a while since I wrote this post, but I keep it pinned to find more people. I follow several woodworking hashtags and have a solid list of accounts I follow which are great woodworkers.
It's a great thing to get inspired.
@aramloosman oh didn’t realize the post was so old^^
@Seth Every so often the post gets going again, beeing shared and liked like crazy.
It's amazing and I'm loving how it seems to bring people with similar interests together!

@aramloosman : 😁

I write mostly in french and I use #travailDuBois , in general. Others french speaking persons do the same.

Somethimes I also use #travailDuBoisVert (green woodworking).

@Seth

ooh thanks @quixoticgeek! Hey @aramloosman 👋 I’m a dabbling spoon carver/green woodworker in the Netherlands
@joenash Nice! Denk erom om beelden van je lepels hier te laten zien!🥄 🗡️
@aramloosman this is one area of woodworking I havent played with yet but want to
@aramloosman I remember @bob tweeting about this a few (many?) years ago...
@felixf @aramloosman I have indeed carved some spoons and have the scar to prove it. I've mostly moved onto using power tools. But I should probably finish the spatula I started at some point.

@aramloosman rereading this I see it's not just spoon carving. I do woodwork as a hobby too. Hi.

@aramloosman

Click your hashtag for spoon carving.

There's a shocking number of spoon carvers around these parts.

@aramloosman If your woodworking is as good as your picture, you are off to a good start. 😃
@MylesRyden Thank you so much for your kind words.
It has been way too long since I picked up my carving knife, but the nice interactions here will surely help to change that.

@aramloosman It has been a bit, but I like carving too. I don't do spoons as much as I do Swedish butter knives.

https://blog.lostartpress.com/2018/08/16/slojd-butter-knife/ I liked Slojd in Wood by Jogge Sunqvist. I got started by Rex Kruger's book.

Might be hit or miss, I didn't really look, but I can check the Rex Kruger Patreon tonight and see if people shared their mastodon accounts. Some might still be doing the hand carving stuff.

Slöjd Butter Knife

This is an excerpt from “Slöjd in Wood” by Jögge Sundqvist. Carving a butter knife is a good beginner project. It may seem to be an easy object to make, but the design requirements requ…

@rattis Ooh, I want to carve a butter knife now :)

@aramloosman it was fun. I made them as Christmas gifts for my in-laws two years ago. There are videos by Jorgge Sunqvist on techniques making them. I need to get back to that.

Currently I'm using purple heart wood, to make hearts for people on my wife Heart walk team. All hand carved, but the wood is really hard and difficult to work with.

Some of the heart stuff is on media page. My butter knives are over on twitter.

@rattis @aramloosman
My son carved me a purple (my favorite color) heart. I cherish it.
@aramloosman I just looked at the Rex Krueger forum, and I am not seeing any Mastodon links
@rattis Thanks for looking anyways. It is sad how many rtists are only present on closed media platforms, especially on instagram. I hope as time goes by, more and more people use open alternatives like pixelfed and mastodon etc.
@aramloosman @briankrebs No idea where to find other such people. I do woodworking, but never carving of any sort, let alone spoons.
@aramloosman I'm not a carver, just recommending the "The Spoon Maker" episode of "A Craftsman's Legacy" if you haven't seen it.

#woodworking is something that appeals a lot to me as an software dev. So I'm curious whether the #woodworking bubble of the fediverse is mainly made up of IT/SW dev people or if it has a similar appeal to other professions. #carpentry #WasMitHolz #IrgendwasMitHolz #woodwork #HolzBearbeitung #HolzWerken #holzliebe #heimwerken #HolzArbeit #moebelbau #askfedi #followerpower #poll #polls [ ] I'm into woodworking - I work in IT/SW dev [ ] I'm into woodworking - I DON'T work in IT/SW dev [ ] I'm NOT into woodworking - I work in IT/SW dev [ ] I'm NOT into woodworking - I DON'T work in IT/SW

@aramloosman I make furniture stuff, both from scratch and re-purposing. Don’t really post here about it, but am going to start now that it’s more than just a hobby!
