Yes hello friday!

Gotta love @pluralistic formulating things so clearly:

"Because there's a sense in which Bengio and I are worried about exactly the same thing. I'm terrified that our planet has been colonized by artificial lifeforms that we constructed, but which have slipped our control. I'm terrified that these lifeforms corrupt our knowledge-creation process, making it impossible for us to know what's true and what isn't. I'm terrified that these lifeforms have conquered our apparatus of state – our legislatures, agencies and courts – and so that these public bodies work against the public and for our colonizing alien overlords.

The difference is, the artificial lifeforms that worry me aren't hypothetical – they're here today, amongst us, endangering the very survival of our species. These artificial lifeforms are called "limited liability corporations" and they are a concrete, imminent risk to the human race."

Journalists have a duty to hold to account all those implicated in war crimes.

I take no joy in confirming that Ethiopia is complicit in atrocities in Sudan. It's heartbreaking when you consider that Ethiopians have been fleeing conflict in their homeland for the safety of Sudan for much of the past 50 years.

But considering that the UAE has used the Ethiopian government to fuel industrial scale slaughter in Ethiopia, this is hardly surprising.

Another reason to hate #Apple We're seeing more 2018+ MacBook Pro/Air donations — but Apple's T2 chip means even after iCloud sign-out and reset, the firmware stays locked to the original account.

Without donor contact, these machines are useless. :(

I've upcycled ~1,000 older Macs, but T2 era machines will end that. It's controlling, creates e-waste, and will only get worse. #righttorepair matters — Apple couldn't care less.

As I explained in New York yesterday, we need to forge an international coalition to develop and implement the new rules – like this unavoidable minimum tax on the ultra-rich – that will allow democratic forces to win out over oligarchic ones.

The report on global inequality, commissioned during South Africa’s G20 presidency, shows that between 2000 and 2024, the richest 1% captured 41% of all new wealth, while the poorest half of the world received just 1%.

This is not sustainable.

I don't want to sugarcoat this: I don't and won't use LLMs and AI tooling for the same reason I don't use Tiktok, or Twitter, or Facebook, and I think that if you write prose with ChatGPT or code with Claude those systems will do exactly the same thing to your writing and your code and your ability to create either of them that Twitter does to your politics or Facebook does to your relationships or Tiktok does to your self esteem. I think they're doing that to you right now.
