Find a hobby that you love, then look at the social groups around that hobby.
Ideally, this would be something where the hobby itself is something you can do in pandemic-type isolation, but it is popular enough that the notion of getting together IRL with such folks is feasible in better times.
That "find a hobby that you love" thing tends to be super easy for kids. It gets harder and harder for older folks, though.
Remember, though, "fun to do" is better than "good results."
How much do you want to meet new people? Is it enough to explore a new hobby?
Fiction writing incorporates sociology aspects in world-building, and all manner of otherwise only consumed fandom in the fanfiction. A gathering of writers tends to be quiet, thoughtful, and interesting. (It attracts a fairly introverted crowd.)
