#aquarium #fishtank #filter #hob #hangOnBack So I bought a #Fluval C 50 last week and i'm very disappointed with it, here's why.

I have a 30gal aquarium (110L), fairly planted, with diy co2 and about 10 prisoners inside + rcs for the past 2 years. Last year i had found an #Eden 522 in the trash (cannister filter) and after some cleaning it worked like a charm until the plastic pipe connector broke last week. I couldn't fix it properly so off I went on the quest for a new filter.

First off: the price ! After some research the Fluval C seemed like a good choice: websites claimed it was not noisy. Given the crowded state of my aquarium, i figured i could a trive to the 5 filtration layers. It comes at a cost of around 50eur, 50 usd, but hey that's what you have to pay for decent filtration ?

Second: the noise ! Far from the websites review, this filter is not silent AT ALL. This is for 2 reasons: the water pump is external, vibrates and creates a background humming...

... But that's nothing compared to the noise the water makes when entering the water column ! You see, each hob filter has a water slide, to gently drop the filtered water back in the tank. On the Fluval C, this water slide is 3 cm long. If like me your aquarium top water level is at 5/6cm from the top border of the aquarium, the water falls for an extra 2/3 cm long, like a waterfall. And how do Niagara Falls sound like ? Like the Fluval C of course !

Third: the lego ! I haven't had to clean the filter yet (only one week on the run), but all these compartment seem to be overworked and will take a bit of practice to learn to dis/re-assemble everytime. I fear i will soon tear down the think to its most basic form and fill it with foam... meaning i'll may waste the main point of this filter away, the multi filtration level.

Overall i feel cheated by american websites overselling their crap on the web. My old Kotobuki hob filter is much better

On the Kotobuki, the water pump is inside the water column: hide it behind plants and it's perfectly silent. The water slide of Kotobuki filter is much longer (about 5cm ?), so the water SLIDES in the aquarium, it doesn't FALL and produce that constant noise. It's also much simpler to operate and gave me good satisfaction on my first year with my first aquarium ever. Only its flow capacity is less than the fluval, hence why i went to buy a new filter.

That's all folks !
