@mawr So we don't really have all that many stories, but uh...
One time we ran into an anti-nonanthro person, going "should we ban all feral art? [poll]".
I of course jumped in and was like "hey, no, /you're trying to say people aren't allowed to be nonhuman/, they have to be human and anything else is unacceptable". We traded blows a bit until I got fed up and reported them, I'm pretty sure they immediately got banned.
So like,
the mods actually care.
@mawr Basically, I... none of us would be us without the fediverse.
9/10ths of us would literally not be here.
When people donated their stimulus checks and also things got lewd. No-bullshit mutual aid
@mawr being greeted with "awoo" on the local masto soc site, also when #vore was a meme and trending before trending # were a thing
rot13 and then the implementation of the CW in the software
and finally me, at some point, feeling comfortable enough to put my pronouns in my bio (i was tired from the hate from twitter, facebook, and tumblr, so i had stopped for a while)
mastodon gave me courage
@mawr When I was on mastodon.social and could see on the local timeline people announcing they had realized they had realized they were trans or had found their pronounces and I could give congratulations and well-done messages from a stranger and they were happy to get it.
(I assume this is still going on but I see less of it from blimps.xyz and can't keep up with the federation timeline.)
@mawr Somebody did something careless one time. It upset a lot of people and some people very reasonably decided to post about it or took action. Others overreacted and some other people reacted to this overreaction and still more people blocked/muted everyone involved in an attempt to avoid drama that they might have an opinion about but didn't directly involve them. Many people involved by this stage have not seen the original post. Everyone involved is wonderful, upright, but ultimately flawed people with deep and complex lives and experiences. Whatever came of a careless, insensitive, or poorly-timed post, it will happen again. Probably tomorrow.
Oh wait, this is what happens every time I go to bed.
