Tell me where you're from and something which you consider comfort food

@InvaderXan that's a tough one.

Born and raised in the #Netherlands, now living in #Norway.

When it comes to #comfortFood, I guess it depends on the setting.

As a handheld #streetFood, I can really enjoy #fries, in particular #Dutch style with mayonaise, curry gewürz ketchup or peanut satay sauce, with finely chopped raw onions.

Sitting at a terrace: fries with a hamburger or satay skewers with peanut sauce and fried onions.

@InvaderXan
sitting in a pub, not much beats a plate of #bittergarnituur (deep-fried snacks such as #bitterballen, mini-loempias (springrolls), mozzarella sticks, #frikandellen and similar bite-size junkfood, served alongside young and aged cheese and preferably pickles), and a glass of cold Palm beer.
It's probably one of the things I miss the most moving to Norway.

@InvaderXan While they do know #utepils (Norwegian for a beer enjoyed outside) here, and also snacks, the assortment is quite limited to back in NL, and alcohol is taxed quite a bit more here too, making it also less affordable. And I know of only one pub in Norway that actually sells Dutch bitterballen (deep-fried meat ragout balls, preferably served with mustard). ;)

@InvaderXan #Norwegian comfort food for me would be the heart-shaped waffles with cream and strawberry jam, or #fiskeboller (balls made of fish, potato flour, eggs & milk), boiled in a curry/white sauce, served with veggies & rice.
For a campfire snack, or as street-food, a hotdog / #wienerpølse with mashed potatoes and pickles can also put a smile on my face. Fortunately Norwegians like their 'pølser', so you can find all sorts of sausages in the supermarket

@InvaderXan some other comfort foods would be:
- #nasiGoreng / #bamiGoreng
- #GadoGado
- #AjamPedis
(all of them primarily #Indonesian)

- mushy peas
- home-made apple pie
- fish and chips
- onion soup
- falafel

or, in the middle of winter:
- a day-old green pea-soup (#snert) with dried sausage or #rookworst,
- hot cacao with whipped cream, ground cinnamon and chilli-flakes (and perhaps a shot of brown rum)
- a mash of potatoes, kale, gravy[5/5]
