Have there been public statements by #Purism or #Pine64 in relation to the #COVID19apps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_apps ?

People who are forced by their governments to install a COVID-19 privacy-violating app (aka "privacy-preserving") may prefer to install these on a #Librem5 / #PinePhone. Installing the app would be less risky with a hardware bluetooth kill switch (Librem5) or at least a software bluetooth kill switch, rather than with a GAFAM-updated-OS.

I do not know about an official public statement, but unless these apps work on a #Linux desktop they likely will not work on a #LinuxPhone.

These phones' operating systems do not (natively) run #Android or #iOS applications, or any of the other proprietary/walled-garden application environments.

Consider it a side-benefit of using a computing platform to run a mobile computing device.

Sure :). So I thought that Purism (which is so good at advertising how wonderful it is) and PinePhone volunteers might have started checking which (if any) of the free-licensed apps would be likely to work (and be hackable by the person installing them, thanks to the licence) on a GNU/Linux desktop that is adapted for a mobile phone. It's generally good to know that (or if) different software communities are communicating effectively with each other.
