What is the advantage of a federated network (like
@Mastodon) over centralised networks (like
@TwitterOffical)?
Does this make it any easier for the governing team to control the sanity, reduce the toxicity and prevent the platform from enabling bigotry? - or are those functions of only the makers' politics?
Can one be part of multiple instances? For instance, can we make a separate instance exclusively for Left Mastodon and be part of both?
@dearthofsid it does say so. I added an instance in my account. It seems to work
@RateUnrate How do you add instance?
@RateUnrate What does one need to start it? Or can anyone do it?
@dearthofsid @stux could you elaborate on this please? @stux is an admin.

The downsides on a platform like this is that it's 'open' so every other server/website/app with the same protocols can make a 'connection'.

A while ago gab.com (nazi network) joined the fediverse and used the mastodon source for there new platform since the old one got banned by Apple and Google in the App stores. Nowadays many servers including this on are blocking gab.com but if the admin doesn't do that you WILL see a LOT of hate, garbage and racism on the TL

@Ruminess @dearthofsid

@stux That's scary! Any precautions you would suggest?
@BhavanaVarun @stux @Gargron already blocked gab.com from mastodon.social and encouraged other instance admin to the same. Also apps like tusky disable gab.com by default
@stux @Ruminess @dearthofsid that's what I read about Mastodon!
@stux @Ruminess @dearthofsid So basically how good your experience here is, depends a lot on the admins/moderators of your instance.
@stux @Ruminess @dearthofsid so basically you experience here depends on how good your admin is. Fair enough.
@stux @Ruminess @dearthofsid We are already used to hate, garbage and racism, thanks to the #birdsite. But here we atleast have a fighting chance. Unlike the birdsite where corporate greed is in bed with the fascists.
