Thought to make for a stronger #Coati Monday by sharing some of my commissions or other art. Here's my newest, a picture from Thomas K Dye of http://newshounds.keenspot.com who was offering cartoony commissions. I've not been a cartoon, somehow, but a makeover in Early Hanna-Barbera style seemed like fun, and it turned out to be so. It's weird for me to stand on two feet, but that is the Early H-B style, especially for a title card, so I should stretch some.

Thomas Dye's Comics - Newshounds - Infinity Refugees - Thursday, August 29, 2024

The story of dogs, cats, and rats finding a place in human-created world of TV news, old sitcoms, new conspiracies, crazed science, and intense personal drama.

For #CoatiMonday today: an old piece! Around 1998 I did this plot on FurryMuck where I was a robot, and Spaceroo was moved to draw it.

Spaceroo's still around, although more busy with his wife and joeys than with, like, mucking. He still puts kangaroos and dinosaurs and dinoroos on the whiteboards at work.

The mecha plot got me into the Giants Club for the first time, and that was a great place for me for a long while. Also my recollection is that @jakebe and a friend (Jimmaroo[sp?], whom I'm not sure is still around) got roboticized for their own fun as a sideline to this all.

@Austin_Dern
You know, I'm not sure if I've ever actually been a robot or synthetic being before -- it's always been antithetical to my magical nature. <:)

It would be fun to try, though!

@jakebe You're not? Oh, goodness ... I'm embarrassed if I have conflated you with someone else!

My own feeling is there's not a great conflict between magical and synthetic natures. And I feel the number of old-time amusement parks named Dreamland or described as fairylands supports that. L Frank Baum even wrote a book about the Genie of Electricity that's goofy fun right up to the point you notice he got bored with it.

Anyway fairy and robot is a great, underexplored combination.

@Austin_Dern
You're absolutely right, and now I really want to find a way to make that character. :D
@jakebe I'd love to see what you develop.
