#guerillagrow I want to grow some of my food this year. Have some corn, millet, bell pepper, sunflower, tomato, various types of beans and peas, flowers, pumpkin and squash. Since I don't own any usable land I'm going for a permaculture "guerilla grow" (i want it as low on maintenance as possible, especially irrigation, since i have no way of getting the plants large amounts of water on my bike). I located some unused places i can plant them around my town.

Any tips welcome!

Hopefully no one will destroy the plants when they start growing (I'm more than happy to share the fruits tho, as that is less money for corporations selling for-profit food).
If all my corn kernels germinated and the plants matured I could have 1,5 tortillas daily for over a year (that would be awsome).

Gonna try the 3 (or 4) sisters method. If some1 hase any experience with this method please tell me!!!

...and since this lil' project is about "taking back the land" and demonstrating sovereignty from the dominating mentality of land ownership by a single person, we could also call it squat-gardening.

...just in case if some1 needs it, here is a list of good plant companions. This is a homeopathy site, some of their information may be BS, but this information seems legit.

🌱 Ok, seeded 16 tomatoes 🍅 (1 veriety) and 8 hot peppers 🌶️ (4 verieties) I need to get more soil mix. I will transplant them around half of may (I know, plastic cups, but I needed sth that will last longer than a season)
HA! Almost all of the tomatoes sprouted, here is a week’s growth.
Sadly the hot peppers didnt germinate, so i will try the plate germination method, maybe that will work. Also, I’v heard its already warm enough to plant Faba beans in my area... we will see
#gardening
Ok, here is 1 of my potential grow spots. (pot. plant guild placement in red) This is the type of places Im looking for. The only worrying thing is that the plots neighbouring this one are falling prey to sub/urban sprawl😿 , so I dont know how safe this place is. When it gets warmer ill get you a real-life show of it. #gardening
So a handfull of faba beans and peas went into the ground , hope the frosts wont get them
...second week, you can see the first of the real leaves
Also seeded the same amount of tomatoes of an another veriety
#gardening
...week 3 growth
#gardening
...also, send good thoughts, I’m sick lol
... week 4

@CircleAnA Looking good! I'm still waiting on tenterhooks for my new seedlings to start sprouting 🙈 🙈 🙈 🙈
@CircleAnA what beautiful babies 😍
Ok, as i promised here are some of the growspots...

@CircleAnA Omg this idea is amazing. I currently have 10 9 padrón chillies, a serrano and two broccoli plants and I'm getting close to saturation for home growing.

But your idea of guerilla permaculture is so much more awesome and worthwhile! I don't really have any suggestions but I shall watch your progress with interest - maybe try some of my own!

Another growspot 4m*4m square reserved for 4 sisters or milet with bush beans, i will brobaby mulch it with carboard to not let gras grow
#gardening
...and here is the 4*4 growspot a free weeks later, the goldenrod (i assume) plants work as green mulch, covering the ground i will cut them down right before planting the 3(4) sisters around half of may #gardening
...so yeah we had a terrible spring drought for the past 4 weeks (none of the peas i plated came up for example) but i have transplanted some broad beens from cups, that might have a chance of surviving
...well at least 3 broad beans survived the drought, others are all wrinkly and blackening (we’re supposed to get some rain at last this week) #gardening
One row of corn done... o more to go #gardening
@CircleAnA a small amount, of long rows of corn, may result in spotty pollination, it's better to plant them in squares or circles. so no matter what direction the wind blows, the pollen will hit some corn. also hope there is no cornfields in close proximity or you'll get hybrid kernels. 🤓
One of my bigger tomatoes for transplanting grown from seed, im starting to acclimatse them now
(The corn hasnt sprouted yet)
#gardening
... and here is one of the tomatoes with its first flowers. For some reason they are very tall, but not much wide.
#gardening
... some of the tomatoes fruiting
sorry, no photo, phone is broke
#gardening
... here is the first harvest from these tomatoes, came in a variety of colors and sizes (even tho they were sown from one single comercially-grown fruit) over 1,5 kg #gardening
@CircleAnA
Nice harvest! How are your other guerilla plantings doing?
@RuttokansanTuote not too good, the corn was quite clearly stomped out by some one, probably by a forest ranger (they were next to a nature reserve), and the broadbeans that survived the drought are now surrounded by a wall of thorny bushes that i didn't expect when i was planting them (also, last time i tried to find them, i encountered a snake, the rest of the plants (cucumbers, cucini, more) were killed of by the drought
these tomatoes are from my familys garden, but grown fully from seed
@CircleAnA
Ok, sounds familiar. My plants also suffered from drought (which this july was even worse than last year) and many got eaten by slugs and rabbits. Hopefully the weather is going to be less harsh next year.
Pretty sure that we have corn shoots in my guerrilla permaculture plot 😋 im very happy #gardening
@CircleAnA have you tried using coffee grounds with soil, not a lot but some? it acts as a mulch and can be very useful! I've also heard beer works but I'd use with caution
@osakurahime 👋 No, haven’t tried it, ill have to soon... not a big coffee drinker myself, but I have local cofee shops to ask for
...ive heard it holds a lot of water just like a sponge
@CircleAnA it's helpful I'm sure you could ask some coffee shops. Yes it holds water really nicely, it's also biodegradable/compostable. just be careful about waterlogging
@CircleAnA I am growing in my own garden. You'll need good soil to begin with or to fertilize the spot, elsewise you will not harvest a lot. organic fertilizer like manure you should incorporate some time before you transplant your plants into the spot or the roots might burn. if possible mulch the spot to keep moisture in and weeds out. tomatoes like sun, dry leaves and are thirsty af. corn needs wind for polination so you need to plant them in a block for good kernel development.
@CircleAnA if you plant corn + pumpkin or squash+beans or peas into one spot it is kind of a symbiotic layering. the pumpkin will suppress weeds on the ground, while the beans hold on to the corn. pumpkin and squash reroot from any part of the stem. if you cut of the lowest leaves and bury a tomato a little deeper the stem will take roots too, giving it a better base and increasing yield. plants producing big tomatoes need pruning so they do not shoot in every direction wasting energy on greens
@CircleAnA hope there is at least something interesting you might wanna investigate further ;D
@boschinc yep, im trying to do the 3 sisters method, but im adding some sunflower as a trap crop
