people who use music in their games:

Do you prefer more atmospheric music (i.e. video game music that is instrumental) or like to use songs with lyrics?
Or do you go straight to pop songs (or metal, or 80s, or whatever your genre of choice is) on full blast?

@Miru As a general rule, never with lyrics. In my case, mostly taken from video game or film soundtracks. I can recommend some.

I remember when I was young that some friends used to play black metal (it was usually horror or dark fantasy). I guess that could work, too, because people don't usually focus/understand the lyrics anyway.

I think the only exception is Ribbon Drive (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/114059/Ribbon-Drive), and in that case you _need_ to use music, and at least the first songs need to have lyrics...

@Miru When I used music in my games, I tried to give each major character/faction their own theme.

I always restricted myself to songs with lyrics that matched the character/faction, often in a somewhat ironic manner.

Actually, quite often, it actually went the other way 'round, with me listening to a song, then deciding to turn it into a character :)

@Miru - Depends on the campaign, really, but instrumental seems to be the best for most sessions. My group has a habit of having intro songs for each session that usually have lyrics, too.
