Always annoys me that d&d rolls a 20+mod for checks. This gives a random distribution of results , when people would really have a normal (Gaussian) distribution of results. 2d10+mod models actual people much better than 1d20+mod. Crit Range can be maintained at +1% odds if you extend it from (2-4) and (18-20) #dnd #math
@BenGoldman - Have you looked into the AGE system? Its 3d6 based system might be more to your taste.
@gallowglass I haven't! I'll have to go check it out. Thanks for the rec. ๐Ÿ˜€โ€‹๐Ÿ‘โ€‹
@BenGoldman - It started out as the Dragon Age RPG but Green Ronin made a setting neutral variant that's called Fantasy AGE. It still has classes and levels, but the core mechanics are a bit more weighted towards the middle.
@gallowglass I heard good things about the Dragon Age RPG! Ever since I left college and went to the "real world" I don't have as much time to learn or convince my group of other busy gamers to learn new systems. So we usually bounce around the handful that we already know. With that said I've been pushing hard for Eclipse Phase, but that is 100% to do with the setting.
@BenGoldman in one of the games Iโ€™m designing, all rolls are 3d6+mod. Crits are extended to 16-18, which is still roughly 10%
@dapperbear sounds nice and Gaussian. 6s just for more accessibility? I'm always gonna be partial to 12s. Those factors tho. ๐Ÿ˜โ€‹
@BenGoldman basically. I always try to keep the barrier to entry as low as possible, even though this particular one is semi-crunchy.
@BenGoldman Old school players are already using 3d6 for stats, why not just use 3d6 for the nice 3-18 bell curve?
