I love historic city centers of small towns in Europe. Everything feels so calm, tidy and cozy.
@fribbledom I’m seriously conflicted as to whether that’s reality or computer generated.

@ecrichlow

πŸ˜‚ Absolutely real, I promise!

@fribbledom @ecrichlow I'm pretty sure I've done this course in Mario Kart
@fribbledom It looks like a model set, it's so empty!

@kirbizard

... I took this photo on a Friday morning πŸ˜†

@fribbledom Quedlinburg?

@irina

Melsungen... not too far away in the grand scheme of things πŸ‘

I think the current calm and tidiness must be fairly recent. Imagine the same street a few hundred years ago with wagons, horse shit and maybe people emptying swill into the street from upper windows.

@fribbledom Ooh, yes!

Life on a human scale.

@fribbledom Had a discussion about this recently.
Munich has tons of old buildings, but everything looks kind of modern, especially compared to, say, parts of the inner citry of Amsterdam or Paris or Brussels.
My current assumption is the pavement. Small cobbles like in your pic make it look old and cozy, tarmac and big rectangular modern cobbles make it look boring and modern, no matter how the buildings look.
@fribbledom That's "Anno 1506" on the house on the left?

@Anke

Indeed it does say Anno 1506!

@fribbledom my first wholesome 'thread' in mastodon, this almost feels like twitter of old.
@fribbledom this looks fake to me, my town has some buildings in that style and cobbles in the old bit, but nothing is so clean, the streets are narrower and the cobbles are worn round from hundreds of years of being walked on

@radikalgrafitio

I know, I know πŸ˜‚ And yet, I took this photo with my own hands... err, mobile.
