Week 41: Adox CHS II 100

"Harvest Time"

Pinhole image of the pumpkin harvest in Wisley Gardens. Shooting on Adox CHS II 100 film, in a ZeroImage 2000, developed in Caffenol-CH.

Week 40: FPP Wolfman 100

"Seeing double"

Pinhole image of a shallow pool in a peace garden, shooting on FPP Wolfman 100 film, in a ZeroImage 2000, developed in Caffenol-CH. Over the years I've had a few accidental double exposures which produces nice images over the years but never been satisfied with intentional efforts. So this roll was dedicated to practicing double exposure and had a nice couple of results.

Week 39: Washi I 80

"Lavender"

No time to go out and about this week, so a pinhole image from the garden. Shooting a roll of Washi I 80 ISO, on a ZeroImage 2000 developed in Caffenol-CH. This is another specialty film cut from industrial x-ray film, typically used for imaging welds. This film is at least double the thickness of most other stock at 0.24mm, and weirdly is coated on both sides.

Week 38: Ilford Delta 400

"Mirror"

Pinhole image of the local canal lockgates. The lock was full offering a nice mirrored view of the trees. Shooting Ilford Delta 400 on a ZeroImage 2000 developed in Caffenol-CH.

Week 36: AristaEDU Ultra 100

"Blurred"

Took the train from Milan back to London which allowed a stopover in Paris and a morning exploring. This pinhole shot was taken outside the glasshouses in the Jardin des Plantes. Shooting AristaEDU Ultra 100 which is a rebadging of Foma 100, in a ZeroImage 2000 & developed in Caffenol-CH. The gentle breeze led to rather nice blurring of the plants.

Week 34: Kodak T-Max 400

"Bench"

After 3 weeks of disappointment, this was back to more successful pinhole shooting, with a roll of Kodak T-Max 400. Used to use T-Max quite a lot but the price is off-putting these days with others offering better value. The little fog in dark parts of the image are merely from under fixing the negatives, as I forgot T-Max needs longer fixing. Will refix it again later.

Week 34: Rollei SuperPan 200

"Tree"

This pinhole image of a tree is the only frame that was even recognisable from the roll. This roll of Rollei SuperPan 200 was the closest to a complete failure so far. The negatives came out almost completely black even on the frame borders which could not have been exposed to light in the camera. This was developed in Caffenol-CH as with every other film and I've seen successful images with SuperPan and Caffenol from other photographers. Either the film was flawed when I bought it, or I unknowingly did something wrong during processing, or it just doesn't agree with my Caffenol-CH dev. Would have to retest to figure this out.

Week 33: FPP X-Ray 100

"Railroad X-ing"

This roll of FPP X-Ray film was rather a disappointment. Shot on a ZeroImage 2000 pinhole camera and developed in Caffenol-CH as usual but the resulting negatives were heavily over exposed. On the box this 120 format stock is labelled ISO 100, but reading the manufacturer's website it can be shot as ISO 100-400. Weirdly the 35mm format of the same stock is box labeled ISO 200. If the exposure time is over 1 second I tend to over expose all my pinhole shots by 1 stop to compensate for reciprocity behaviour of film. So in effect I was shooting as if it were more like ISO 50 and from the results this seems to have been a bad idea for this film. If I use it again I think I'll rate it at 200 with no compensation for long exposures. As the name suggests this film is old stock for medical x-ray machines and is not sensitive to red light which made for some high contrast. That all said I like the extremely grainy stylised image here and will be interested in how the negatives print in the darkroom as I think they will do better than the digital scans.

Week 32: Foma Ortho 400

"The Grand"

This week was a roll of Foma Ortho film, shot on a ZeroImage 2000 pinhole camera and developed in Caffenol-CH. I made an exposure mistake with this roll resulting in most of the frames being heavily over exposed. It was early in the morning and I metered the first couple of shots but was lazy and assumed all shots would be roughly the same. Mistakenly didn't anticipate the quickly brightening conditions.

Week 31: CatLabs X 320

"Granite outcrops"

Pinhole photograph of the granite rock outcrops atop Pew Tor, Dartmoor. Shooting on CatLabs X 320 film in a ZeroImage 2000, developed in Caffenol-CH. Something went horribly wrong with this roll of film, the entire roll was heavily pre-exposed, guessing either from some kind of mistake during manufacturing, or perhaps a heavy x-ray dose during transit before I acquired it. Rather annoying, but surprisingly with heavy adjustments after scanning, I still managed to coax out acceptable images from many of the frames.
