Finished reading: The Husky and His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun (Novel) Vol. 2

First half a little slow (not to mention took me a little while to remember who everyone was and what was going on), but devoured the last third in a few hours when the mystery plot picked back up again.

Finished reading: Heaven Official’s Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 5

Kinda getting the feeling in this volume that MXTX is falling into the sort of “padding” plot arcs that she mocked in SVSSS.

There’s a core story here I’m digging but it’s getting a bit buried into endless digressions on the back stories and corruption of endless side-characters, that are all honestly kind of similar? Some of the similarity I get is intentional (repeating patterns, reincarnation, etc.), but that coupled with the whole “suddenly, everyone got eaten by a mountain!” stuff, it’s like . . . this feels a bit like volume five of a neat, three-volume novel . . .

There’s a lot happening in this volume and it all feels a bit rushed; not just the plot, but Wei Wuxian’s sudden romantic interest in Lan Wangji. Which I did enjoy — it was just My Kind of tropey — but does feel like it goes from zero to awkward-first-time-drunk-sex very quickly.
