Marcus Dods, Free Church of Scotland minster, writes on the charge to remember the poor (1 Cor 16:1). With all the abuses of the poor, hard to see how to end poverty. But we can think of connections to harsh conditions and our cheap comforts. There is blood-guilt here.

Jonathan Edwards, uncle of Aaron Burr, considers effects of slavery on culture. It promotes laziness among the white people, leading to intemperance and sexual abuse of the enslaved persons. It enfeebles the mind.
Some would rehabilitate the rep of slavery today. Edwards said it made whites lazy, promiscuous, unproductive, and weak.
