It's like Kevin Tenney thought, "hey, the first movie turned out alright and it's been 9 years since it came out. What if I mixed a Lifetime quality murder mystery idea with the original flick and see how that turns out." Certainly not the worst sequel I've ever seen, but just.... Oof.

Probably been over 20 years since I've revisited this one, but watching the new remake instigated a viewing. A solid flick that was different enough from its contemporaries to stand out even if the main selling point was it girl of the moment Tawny Kitaen as the lead. Not a lot of gore but enough to slide by in the day. Not great but certainly more than serviceable with enough fun moments to make it a decent little throwback comfort horror.

An overall harmless remake that has no business being as decent as it is. I'd put a lot of that on being directed by Chuck Russell, who has a solid track record in horror, having directed The Blob remake and Dream Warriors. A remake pretty much in name only with a few callbacks to the original, it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the original.
