@anderslund thank you! yes i discovered that interesting idea, & i was able to create the #kdelinux overlay. my problem was --& i feel embarrassed coz the following prolly indicates a massive ignorance of basic pkg management on my part-- i then could not understand how to use that overlay directory. what i mean is, if i could place an apps' binary executable file there [which for example in a mutable system i might install to /opt/, eg, :firefoxnightly:] , then it would run fine. but in the case of my desired #Windscribe #VPN app, i do not already have the binary, only the installer pkg that would, in a mutable system, end up creating & installing the binary. i feel like the answer must be staring me in the face, but so far i'm too silly to see it.

@anderslund that's great to hear.

for me, apart from the manual partitioning, the other issue i couldn't solve, was there being no way afaict to install my #Windscribe #VPN app in it, given #kdelinux has no equivalent to #Kinoite's "overlay" paradigm. if i could find solutions to both these remaining showstoppers [i already had progressively solved all my other issues] i would rush back to KDELinux in a heartbeat.

So sometimes this monkey is not a very smart man. I figured out why I couldn't configure a setting through the #Qwant search engine. It was all courtesy of this glorious thing called a VPN. #Windscribe in this case. After fiddling around with some settings & getting Qwant to show me the security setting page, I am able to use the search engine with that pesky setting enabled. I don't always understand technology. Anyway, thanks for those who responded and I want to thank you for your time.
