Named for an immersive widescreen film projection system that predated IMAX, Cinerama were founded by David Gedge after he put the Wedding Present on sabbatical following a 1997 tour. Centered lyrically around Gedge's regular themes of courtship, romance, love, lust, and infidelity, Cinerama also indulged Gedge's love of film music from John Barry to blaxploitation, as well as the classic songwriting of Bacharach/David and the less dramatic sides of Scott Walker...

The Wedding Present kommen im September in die Brotfabrik* und hier ist ein Reminder, warum es eine gute Idee ist, da hin zu gehen.
Ich hatte mich gerade gestern abend über meine etwas merkwürdige Musiksozialisation unterhalten, die unter völliger Umgehung aller 'Größen', die in den 70ern Geschichte geschrieben haben, stattfand.
Ich war so von 9 bis… ca 14 Jahre großer Kiss und AC/DC Fan, dann kam die Neue Deutsche Welle, dann eine merkwürdige Phase mit trashigen Italo Maxi Singles (ZYX Records, anyone?) und frühem House und dann bin ich (musikgottseidank) direkt mit den (vorwiegend) englischen Schrammelbands der 'Class of 86' und Post-Punk und Indiezeugs in Berührung gekommen. Nicht zuletzt durch die Nächte im Cookys und dem Idiot Ballroom in der 'Kapp.
The Wedding Present hatte ich gar nicht so präsent (hihi) damals, aber dieser Sound holt mich sofort wieder ab. Hach.
(Die 'Größen' habe ich dann erst viel später kennen- und schätzen gelernt, als ich selbst dann in Bands gespielt habe, und dort mit meiner SPEX Musik nicht wirklich sessiontauglich war und für den ein oder anderen 'wie, Du kennst Black Sabbath nicht?!' Moment sorgte, anfangs 🤭)

Well that was another lush #GreenMan festival done. Such a beautiful site, great crowd, excellent bars & stalls, and if the music wasn’t perhaps as perfect as sometimes that’s probably down to me not searching hard enough. Highlights were #RoziPlain #Delgados covering Fleetwood Mac’s Green Manalishi and the ever mighty #WeddingPresent.
Kinda glad to be sleeping in four walls with my own loo after a week of it mind
