Venezia, 24 mar. (askanews) - "È per me un grande piacere essere qui per presentarvi la ventesima edizione della Biennale Danza, intitolata 'Time Does Not Exist'. Il brillante fisico quantistico Carlo Rovelli, noto per il suo lavoro sulla gravità quantistica e sulla filosofia della scienza, sostiene che il tempo, così come lo intendiamo, non esiste nel senso convenzionale. Le sue idee mettono in discussione la percezione tradizionale del tempo come entità continua e fluida, suggerendo invece che il tempo sia profondamente intrecciato con il tessuto della fisica e con la nostra comprensione dell'universo". Così Sir Wayne McGregor, direttore artistico della Biennale Danza, ha presentato la nuova edizione del festival internazionale in programma a Venezia dal 17 luglio all'1 agosto.
"La teoria relazionale di Rovelli - ha proseguito McGregor - non considera il tempo come una dimensione assoluta, ma come una relazione tra eventi che emergono dalle interazioni tra sistemi. La nostra percezione del tempo, sostiene, è soggettiva, influenzata da processi cognitivi e, a livello quantistico, il concetto tradizionale può crollare completamente. Il tempo è un prodotto di relazioni e stati mutevoli, non un aspetto fondamentale della realtà. E questo invita a un profondo ripensamento del modo in cui concettualizziamo il tempo. Le idee di Rovelli sulla non linearità e la molteplicità del tempo sono state al centro dei miei pensieri mentre mi immergevo nella storia della Biennale Danza e del suo festival, che nel 2026 celebrerà ufficialmente il suo ventesimo anniversario. Ripercorrendo sistematicamente e cronologicamente la sua eredità, mi addentro negli archivi, tentando di riavvolgere il nastro e riflettere, estraendo dalla storia le cifre, i fatti e le narrazioni del passato".

The brilliant quantum physicist Carlo Rovelli, known for his work on quantum gravity and the philosophy of science, argues that time, as we understand it, does not exist in the conventional sense. His ideas challenge the traditional perception of time as a continuous and flowing entity, suggesting instead that time is deeply intertwined with the fabric of physics and our understanding of the universe.” Thus Sir Wayne McGregor, artistic director of Biennale Danza, presented the new edition of the international festival which will take place in Venice from July 17th to August 1st.
“Rovelli’s relational theory – McGregor continued – does not consider time as an absolute dimension, but as a relationship between events that emerge from the interactions between systems. He argues that our perception of time is subjective, influenced by cognitive processes and, at the quantum level, the traditional concept can completely collapse. Time is a product of relationships and changing states, not a fundamental aspect of reality. And this invites a deep rethinking of how we conceptualize time. Rovelli’s ideas about nonlinearity and the multiplicity of time have been at the center of my thoughts as I immersed myself in the history of Biennale Danza and its festival, which will officially celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2026. Systematically and chronologically tracing its legacy, I delved into the archives, trying to rewind the tape and reflect, extracting figures, facts, and narratives from the past.”
