Lucknow: A senior railway officer who was named in a bribery complaint by a retired travelling ticket examiner (TTE) has rejected the allegations, describing them as “unfounded and driven by personal vendetta.” The former TTE claimed that, when he sought renewal of permission to operate an automatic ticket‑vending machine (ATVM) at Varanasi Junction, the officer demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The officer responded that the authority to run ATVMs does not currently rest with him. He explained that in August 2025 he formally recommended the termination of the ATVM operations that had been assigned to the ex‑TTE because of misconduct, after which the competent authorities withdrew the TTE’s permission. According to the officer, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the complaint found no evidence that any money was received by him.

He asserted that his conduct has always been transparent and in compliance with railway rules, and that official records at both the divisional office and Varanasi station corroborate his version of events. The officer’s statement seeks to clear his name of the corruption charge lodged by the retired ticket examiner.
