Just opened up #knuth 's The Art of Computer Programming #taocp. I bought the full set on #Kindle this morning. The first para of ch1 traces the #etymology of the word #algorithm to Abu Abdallh al-Khwarizmi. This is well known. But I got curious. What was modern Khawarizmi like? It is located on the border between modern-day #uzbekistan and #turkmenistan. One of the large cities on the Uzbek side being #urgench. Nice to see the birthplace of #algebra.
