So, let me get this straight (no pun intended)... For me to not be blocked by anyone on the Fediverse, I have to
1) Run a BG check on not only the people that I boost and reply to but also to their _instances_?! Who has the time for that? I am a simple internet user. I see something I enjoy/agree/disagree with or whatever and I boost it or reply to it. This reminds me of what Pastor Chris Rosebrough once called the "poop stink theory" (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsWkm4s4q6o). Meaning a bad actor has a poopy smell and if you were within 3 degrees of the bad actor, you also smell like poop and should be avoided. That's not how real life works, bud.
2) Run a background check on the creator(s) of any web tools that I use. In this case, I'm a bad bad bad boy because I found a useful tool that tells me who is actively blocking my federation, but it happened to be developed by someone who is on Mastodon Santa's Naughty List? Again... Why is the onus on me to find out who is a good actor and a bad actor? And who defines what a good or bad actor is? Why can't the tools of these bad actors just be agnostic?
The irony is, I'm a deeply religious Christian man (some Mastodoners have told me that might be a reason my instance is ban-hammered), but people like you seem to be a lot more sectarian than my own denomination. And that's saying a lot, because my denomination is currently busy weeding out and excommunicating anyone that they THINK might be associated with Nazis (source: https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/how-to-get-excommunicated-in-2023 | https://evangelicaldarkweb.org/2024/06/01/nearly-100-lcms-pastors-sign-statement-opposing-excommunication-of-ryan-turnipseed/). I think instance admins should be more concerned with banning users and not entire instances.
