Good effort, little buddy.
Good effort, little buddy.
I was wrong — the bottom half of the tree peony graft won out this year. I thought they looked smaller than usual, but were a darker color before they popped open which fooled me. This is the first year the bottom took a turn where most of the flowers didn’t open looking burnt and wilted.
It looks like the top half of the graft is going to win this year’s battle on my second tree peony. It’s been a dry spring, so I don’t think I’m going to get dinner-plate sized flowers, but who knows!?
Three new tree peony explosions from Sunday and Monday.
One of my tree peonies is peonying in a most peonic way.
#Treepeony 'Aquila' Blooms are about 8" wide when opened.
#Treepeony 'Siedl #166'
#TreePeony 'Shimane Chojuraku' -- *extremely* slow growing, we get about 1 additional bloom for each year of growth, though this year we're short one or two. Dinner plate size, see photo with black pen as a reference.
